At this point Gettleman could pick a quarterback from Southeast Oklahoma State in the first and many of you would be like "BPA! Gman! That's my GM! Bup Bup Bup"

Bunch of damn robots man. Allow one old man to think for him. You would think we were back to back Super Bowl champs or something. So far we've gotten worse not better

Did you feel the same way when we drafted Kuechly and already had Beason?

Funny how people forget that Luke wasn't drafted to play Mlb. He made the switch after Beason got hurt. The situation isn't even comparable. Now if you're going to split Gurley out at WR then by all means draft him. but most likely he'll be splitting carries. Not worth it. We have talented RBs, we need play makers at the WR position and solid tackles.

Crowded? Considering it's probably Stewart last season and after him it's fozzy and Reaves doesn't seem like much comp back there to me.

What makes you think this is Stewart's last season? and you forgot about Tolbert. But go ahead draft. We are the panthers after all

Mads the wrong word.  I would be somewhat confused or surprised or whatever.  However, if we are committed to being a running team we definitely need another stud in the backfield with Stewart being unlikely to play all 16 games.  If DG thinks this guy can be a good/great player on a reasonable contract for the next few years then I would certainly be willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.  One could certainly make a compelling argument that our backup RB will touch the ball a minimum of 10-12 times a game which is almost certainly more than any WR we would draft.

You can't be a team that takes the statement "build through the draft" as literally as we do and spend first rounds picks on luxury spots.

I understand people here have spent years trying to make those two tropes coexist in the same philosophy because it's catchy and it's what the TV told them was smart to say, but you either construct your team implementing quality free agents in supplement to your draft picks or you go BPA (in the sense that the Huddle perceives it) come draft day.

You aren't going to win championships ignoring need areas year in and year out or banking on UDFAs, late career rejects, or ST players to hopefully be "just enough" to get you all the way.

For those who are against drafting Gurley in the first because of injuries then look no further than Willis McGahee who had a great rookie season, lasted from 2004-2013(10 seasons), and had 1199 yards in 2011 which was his eighth year in the league.

Now I'm not trying to say we should draft Gurley but we shouldn't overlook him because of injuries.

Different times, the league is becoming more pass heavy every year.

Mcgahee sat out a whole season if I recall, panthers are trying to win right now. We shouldn't be waiting to see if a player is fully healthy.

Before start bringing up Lynch keep in mind the Seahawks didn't draft him, the patriots just won a SB without a feature back, the ravens won it with a 3rd round back.

I'm not going to sugar coat it I would hate if we draft a rb in the first 2 rounds

I like Gurley but we need to draft a OT in the 1st round. Beside he will be gone to the lions before our pick.

The argument is the fact that the 1st round is where you draft instant difference makers. You don't draft a OT in the first just cause you have a need at the position. The guys available at our pick will not be that much better than guys available in the second round. Nobody at the tackle position is a plug and play option. At other positions in this draft (WR, RB) you get more of an instant return on the pick invested.

Don't believe me, go look at the OT prospects from the 1st round of last years draft

Who gives a flip about other teams. The teams that were successful last year had well developed rushing attacks. With Gurley this team would have a deadly rushing attack, something we can hang our hat on. The oline will not be quickly fixed by one or two draft picks. You have to invest alot of picks and FA pickups and hope they turn out good to field a cohesive unit.

Gurley makes this team better. An OT at 25, maybe, maybe not.

Thomas Davis sat out for three years. I guess we shouldn't have drafted him either.

    • As I said less than 10 minutes into the game, Boston looks nothing like we're used to seeing. Regardless, any curb-stomping of the Bruins is welcome.  The scorers all got the glory tonight, but all 6 D-men had excellent games. Across the board- Gost, Orlov, Chatty, Walker and, of course, Slavin & Burns.
    • I just tried a few mock draft simulators and this is the only way lol. Nothing else makes sense.
    • No, biggest weakness is pass rush, but I don't think there is a blue chip can't miss DE prospect to take at #1 this year, same as with QB.  But beyond that, moving forward, yea WR is a pretty damn big weakness. We have 1 game this season over 224 yards passing and just traded away our best WR (who wasn't going to re-sign here anyways).  That WR no longer on the team was also the only player we've had this year who had over 78 yards receiving in a game.  So again, yea, WR is one of our biggest weaknesses even right now, let alone moving into the future. As I just said in my other post, I love Legette, but he's not going to be a Top 5-10 WR type of guy, Top 15-20 I can see, I think he can be a good #1 WR or an elite #2. After that, what do we have for the future?  Thielen isn't part of it, sure as hell isn't going to be Mingo, and as much as we all like Coker, in no world is Coker as our #2 to Legette as the #1 going be considered as "having weapons" at WR, even with Brooks and Sanders. But put someone like T-Mac into that group, who I genuinely think is going to be a Top 5 WR in this league for a long time, and it changes things.  A Top 5 WR with Legette/Coker as the 2/3, along with Brooks and Sanders, has the potential to be one of the best set of offensive weapons in the league if they reach their potential.
