Gamble looked like a rookie out there getting burned by old ass Derrick Mason. The guy just got paid like top 5 corner money and he is getting burned by old man river. That guy was retired until like a month ago. I know that we left Gamble out on an island but the fact that Flacco just kept on abusing him should have been embarrassing enough to motivate him to play.

That said...its not all Gamble's fault. The safety coverage on the Heap TD was atrocious and the fact that we packed the box to stop the run doesn't help the DBs. Just another reason that replacing Kemo is a must if we are going to be competitive.

well the talk of Gamble being a shutdown corner has always been bogus....but him on an island w/ anyone and we will get beat too many times.....if the Lucas/Godfrey combo wasn't so tempting he would be been thrown on a lot more last season.......he really didn't force teams away from anyone...the other side just blew more.

It's unbelievable that after one bad performance in a PRESEASON GAME that the entire fanbase is ready to crucify Chris Gamble. He may not be a "shutdown corner" but he is top ten, and he has been invaluable for us the past couple seasons. He did very well all last year and I don't expect he'll do anything less than that this year.

Gamble had an off game, sure, but at least it was a preseason game.

I've never thought of Gamble as a shut down corner, but he's shown he can hold his own over the years. I've still got a lot of faith in him.

On the other hand, you need to look at the passing offense of the Ravens. Flacco is showing so much poise and touch in the passing game that its hard to believe he's only a second year quarterback out of a FCS college (and one who was well handled by Appalachian State in the championship two years ago). And say what you want about Mason being old, but he's a seasoned vet that knows his craft. The pair isn't Manning and Harrison, but they are good.

And Flacco to Heap, wow, that's going to be a regular this year.

I think it is a combination of poor execution, poor effort, confusion about the defense (Chris Gamble is apparently very confused) and many key parts missing on the defense.

Certainly, the team needs to get more beef up front for QB pressure, but the key to success this season is Beason. Not wanting to make excuses but I suspect Beason's absence really verberates throughout the defense. He is not just a very good ML, he is the field general. Him not being there, coupled with a new system is one of the main reasons for the sloppy execution.

As another poster said, it's all about pressure on the QB. Flacco had all day to step up into his throws, survey the field, check down to the RB (which he did a lot), bake cookies, do his taxes, the whole nine yards. The defense is a cohesive unit - when the front four do their job, the secondary can do their job better. When one area is failing, domino's mutha f***er!
