NFL files lawsuit against Mecklenburg County for Hardy evidence

I think they want more than two.

A two game suspension invokes the memory of Ray Rice, and they'd really like to avoid reminding people of that particular PR disaster.

I expect they'll try to go for three or four games. Not a huge difference, but gives them the ability to say "see, we're tougher now".

The Rice fug up was their mess. Hardy's conviction was vacated, the case was dropped. Yeah, he basically paid off his accuser, but in the end, legally he's in the clear and there's no "smoking gun" evidence besides these pics. Given the evidence they have at their disposal, a 2 game ban is all they can justify. I'm sure the NLFPA will appeal any suspension over 2 games.

Maybe. Maybe not.

Remember when Hardy met with the league, he agreed to be cooperative with them in exchange for their not preventing him from signing in free agency.

Is that true? Everything I've read seems to say that being on the Commissioner's Exempt list doesn't prevent a team from trading or signing a player. Don't think they had that authority.

I don't see how it could possibly be more than 2 games without Hardy doing like Peterson did.

As long as it's less than six, the league can say it isn't using the new system.

The old system didn't actually have any guidelines. Two games was what the league generally handed out, but it wasn't codified.

Hardy turned over some documents and other things during their meeting, and the league made the statement that he could sign while he was still on the list.

Speculation was that he agreed not to fight the suspension. Unknown if that's true (hence why I said maybe) but it makes sense.

The league would be saying that Greg Hardy did something worse than Ray Rice, when his case was thrown out of court and there was no hard evidence, whereas Rice did have hard evidence AND had wayyyyyy more of a backlash. Lawyers will eat that sh*t up. He will not end up with more than 2.

So how many paychecks does Goodell forfeit for totally screwing up the Ray Rice situation? 2 games? Really Roger, any pea brain who saw the first video knew he deserved minimum of an entire year and you gave him 2 games. When I saw that video for the first time I was absolutely irate and when you gave him only 2 games I was nuclear. Your an idiot Goodell and I have to seriously question the owners intelligence for continuing to leave you in a position that you are obviously totally under qualified for.
