Hardy to choose between Cowboys and Bucs

Sports Talk Florida:

"It sounds like it might be more of a negotiating tactic by Drew Rosenhaus rather than a legitimate offer on the table by the Buccaneers, but again, team officials have been somewhat silent on the issue, only confirming that they’d done their homework on him.

Perhaps Rosenhaus knows the Bucs have the financial capabilities to give Hardy a better offer. The Bucs currently have nearly

$26 million in cap space compared to the Cowboys’ $5.4 million.

Of course, teams always have ways they can creatively maneuver cap space around, so that daunting figure won’t hold Jones back if he wants Hardy badly enough."

I'm glad you like a rainbow view of everything. . But can I be realistic? ?

3 elite players on a team we have to play twice a year.. isn't good for us..

You can be happy seeing Greg twice a year go against Oher or a rookie and i'll be a little worried about that match up.. And we can move on..

Shame we don't have any great players on our roster

(enjoy your panic)

I remember after the big season Hardy had in 2013, there were a number of people questioning his consistency, saying that many of those sacks happened in a few games instead of a span of the season. Which was a valid question, and I wondered myself at the time.

However, when you fast forward to the 2014 season, specifically when we were getting blown out 6 times in a 10 game stretch, you can't help but ask yourself how much of a role his absence played in that. I can't downplay the loss this will be for our D.

The division title and playoff victory kind of took the sting out of how truly awful our defense was at one point last season.

Luckily however, Ealy showed promise as the season progressed, and CJ finally had a chance to get healthy.

We have obvious needs on offense, but I wouldn't be surprised if Gettleman drafts another DE.

I had those questions as well but after watching all of 2013 over, he was dominant in every single game. He may very well be the best run-defending DE in the league. The sacks came in spurts, but he was getting double teamed nearly every play. I don't necessarily think we would've had a much better record with Hardy (probably somewhere around 10-6), but his absence definitely had a huge effect on us. By the time our young guys came around at the end of the year, if we had Hardy I honestly think we could've been legitimate Super Bowl contenders. The Seattle game was a 1 score game into the 4th quarter and with Hardy, Wilson doesn't have any of those 3rd down touchdowns he had. I understand letting him go because of financial reasons, but I will be really fuging pissed if it comes out that his contract is 1 year $4M-$6M or somewhere around that. We could easily afford that (and he may even take less here, as he's made it known he wanted to stay a Panthers) and we could contend for a Super Bowl with him for sure next year. I honestly think we have a solid chance without him, so with him I'd have been really confident. Oh well. What could've been. Hope Ealy can show out and maybe Frank can get it together as well.

Ben Hartsock weighs in... interesting.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2015/03/18/former-teammate-greg-hardy-can-be-unmanageable-at-times/

“You trust him to the extent that you don’t necessarily know what you’re going to get,” Hartsock said. “The Greg Hardy that was on the field was going to be a nightmare for the opposing team. But then you go in and everybody is in the hot tub or the cold tub after practice just shooting the breeze and the guy carries on a very reasonable, level-headed inquisitive type of conversation.

But then there are other times when he’s just unmanageable. And that’s why I think things have gotten in trouble with his personal life. He’s going have to go a long ways to earn the trust of any organization, whether it be Dallas or any other franchise across the league.

“His reputation has now become an Achilles heel. Trustworthy is kind of a sliding scale in the NFL. If you’re talented and you have the ability and some skills that no one else has, trustworthiness can be slid a little bit more. Like I said, there aren’t many people like him on the planet that can play and that can do the things that he does. But we are also in an NFL environment right now where any off-the-field liability is frowned upon very strongly.”

Of course, that’s why it’s taken a double-digit sack producer like Hardy more than a week to find a deal. And why it won’t be the same kind of contract an equivalent rusher without the baggage would have gotten.

Still, Hartsock (who played with Hardy for three years in Carolina) acknowledged that Hardy’s talent is rare.

“Well, I think that’s a great question,” Hartsock said when asked if Hardy could be trusted. “When he’s on the field, he’s a dominant force. Because of that, he’s going to get more leniency. The issue he has right now is whether he’s too toxic. He’s going to be on a very, very short leash. If he screws up one more time, I believe he’ll be on his way out. But I do believe he’s going to get another chance and I think he deserves it.”

Hope he gets extremely overpaid and we net a 3rd out of this deal.

Even before the domestic violence stuff I think he was probably walking after last year anyway (don't think they would have given him a long term deal with Cam and Luke's contracts coming up or tagged him twice)

This situation may just let us recoup some of our losses on him from this prior year in the form of a 3rd rounder.  I'm good with that.
