Bill Polian interview on WooFNZ

Bill showed if you have a stud QB, it covers up all your other mistakes. Bill is many ways was like herniay, he hit on first rounders and failed the rest. I don't think he ever hit on third rounder.

As for the panthers getting to championship game in panthers second season, so did the jags. The nfl came out later and said they gave too many benefits to both. When houston texans started out, the path was much harder. Not taking away form bill, he got results and that's the goal.

Pollen is spot on. The organization is being run right at present. No one is talking about the past simply the present. Secondly If people would stop being so defensive about Cam they would know that Polian is saying the same thing that Gettleman and Rivera has said. Cam is an incredible physical specimen but he still is learning for example how to throw to spots instead of waiting for the receiver to clear. He is still learning to read defenses and figure out what he needs to do. He came into the league with one year D1 experience starting and that was with a simplified system that didn't really teach him about NFL defenses. He has made tremendous progress but is still behind guys like Luck and Wilson who came into the league after 4 years of college and were more pro ready than Cam.

He is definitely our franchise guy and should be paid a ton but let's not underestimate the distinct disadvantage he had coming into the league which he made up for initially with athletic ability but ultimately needs to be overcome with experience and time.

You can't throw to spots when you cant trust your WRs to be there.

I'm fine with building a strong defense.

But if you're going to clear out Newton's entire WR core and make his #1 WR a rookie in the same offseason that he had ankle surgery, all while heading into a contract year, you can only blame him so much for the circumstances you put him in.

Yeah we ended up winning the division and a playoff game, but those blowout losses should not be so quickly forgotten. One of the main reasons for those losses was the lack of firepower we had on offense. That's okay if your defense is picking up the slack, but that wasn't happening early on. Even in the playoffs when our defense had returned to form somewhat we still allowed Wilson a near perfect passer rating on 3rd down. Again our offense did not have the firepower to keep up. If our goal is to win the Super Bowl, which it obviously should be, we need to do all we can to keep improving our offense. The "well all we have to do is replace this number on yards and we're good" approach was laughable then, and it was even more laughable when we were getting shithoused by teams like the Vikings last year.

Yeah signing Ginn is a start, but we definitely need another receiving threat, and it looks like it will have to be through the draft.

He wasn't in a contract year. They picked up his 5th year option. This year would be his contract year. Now they are building on the oline and WRs so he actually has something to work with and he will be healthy. In his actual contract year...

But it would have been hellaciously fun to watch.

The chain reaction would be astonishing. Obviously draft orders would change but if Ryan Leaf goes to the colts the Chargers never draft Drew Brees, never draft Eli Manning, and never trade Manning to the Giants. Roethlisberger to the Steelers then comes into question. But Polian made the safe and smart pick so we have what we have.

Polian probably thinks that Andrew Luck would have made golden-laced silk purses out of Byron Bell, Nate Chandler, Jericho Cotchery, and Jason Avant sows ears.  And that KB would have magically NOT dropped easily catchable Andrew Luck passes.

Considering the QBs that just fell into Polian's laps over the years with NO need for "talent evaluation" at all, he's probably in to magical thinking.

I love this repetitive mantra.

Cam is still learning Cam is still learning Cam is still learning.

OF COURSE HE IS.

As is Russell Wilson.

And Andrew Luck.

And Andy Dalton.

And Ryan Fitzpatrick.

And Alex Smith.

And Matt Ryan.

Etc. etc. etc.

AND (unless the many times he sucked in games last year you thought he was doing it on purpose) Peyton Manning.

Cam is still learning.

OK.

That's verbal baby pablum, but OK.

There are lots of franchises that get great QBs that doesn't mean winning multiple Super Bowls is easy or expected. It's not like they missed the playoffs 60% of the time.

Tom Brady has won multiple Super Bowls.

Maybe its because he has a guy on the sideline that knows how to draft and build a solid defense on the other side of the ball from Tom Brady.

Unlike Bill Polian.

"Great" GM?  Naaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah...

Tom Brady had a home field advantage that Peyton could rarely cope with. Tom Brady was fortunate to have new rules made for him whether its no hits below the knee or the tuck rule. The Patriots won 2 Super Bowls with a defense that did nothing but grab and hold before the rules changed.

Your logic is basically "Bill Bellichek did it, why couldn't Polian?". By those standards there are not great GMs, just Bellichek and his front office. You can be great without being the best. Polian was also a part of 4 Super Bowl runs with the Bills that admittedly did not end well.

Newton is not Luck or Wilson, long term deal should factor in his style of play

Gettleman is thinking 3-4 years down road

Building strong D first avoids slings and arrows on offensive side of ball

Salary cap dictates one side of ball must be young. Math dictates that.

*this is all I could dictate while multitasking on a sales call. Somebody else fill in.

Rock on you talented Motherfu*ker you!!

Kind of a trivial point to argue out of all that, no?

Main thing is we took a chance with the offense last year and it backfired.

We learned from it and have the opportunity to upgrade this year, we should do all we can to do so.

The ultimate goal is to compete for a Super Bowl, and we have to go through Seattle to do so.
