Stephen Hill

I like Stephen Hill.  I like the idea of what he could become.  But... just by watching his highlights (I'm not breaking down Stephen Hill film lol) it doesn't look like he plays to those crazy measurables at all.  If I had no prior knowledge of him being a 6'4 4.3 guy, then I definitely wouldn't be able to tell by watching him play.

He doesn't beat people with his speed, and he doesn't beat people with his size.  Every one of those catches in his highlights are him running the same two routes over and over, and they're all thrown perfectly into his hands.

He seems like one of those guys who has these crazy measurables but has no idea how to use them to his advantage on the field.  If he can learn how to do that with us, then great.

It's crazy someone that athletic can't catch a football. I'm short, fat and slow but I can catch anything thrown close to me

Rivera says the year on the practice squad helped Stephen Hill relax, catch the ball more consistently.

Rivera says with Hill's size and speed, could get in a position to help #Panthers.

Rivera said Stephen Hill is at the point where he could contribute this season. #Panthers

Rivera says Stephen Hill takes pressure off HAVING to take a WR in the draft. Doesn't mean #Panthers won't take one.

Don't believe any of this. You would be a fool to believe any of this

Just posting updates.

You're right that expectations shouldn't be high. But Rivera isn't lying. Hill will have the opportunity to compete for a roster spot. That doesn't mean he'll get it though.

Stephen Hill baby. I love this guy. I hope he starts putting it together enough to get on the field.

He is my "collard greens" player of the team.

Eta: just so that doesn't get misconstrued, that is in reference to one of Cam's first interviews after we drafted him where he said it is like "cooking collard green, you got to sit and wait" or something like that

Where is all of the talk about Ricky being a great WR coach really coming from? I know that Smitty gives him a lot if credit in his development when Ricky was a WR here. However, what great talent has Ricky really developed as a coach?

Just wondering people's perspective.

I've been wondering the same thing for 2 seasons now! I get it he's well loved here in Carolina but I don't understand where this WR whisperer talk is coming from! To hear fans tell it, he's the second coming of Bill Walsh

Sad you even have to explain that in this day in age....

I'd say he did a fantastic job this year with Benji, who, under general consensus, was labeled a raw project that needed a year or two to develop the skills needed to take advantage of his physical gifts.

He was our #1 WR from day 1 and you saw the coaching in his route tree.

Some credit has to be given for Philly Brown as well.

Now I'm sure someone will come and say that the WR class was strong, and it was very strong, but the other WR's that put up numbers this year were considered more of a sure thing than Benji, who, once again, was considered a boom or bust project with a limited route tree.

He hasn't developed a perennial pro bowl talent yet, but he also hasn't been our wide receiver coach for a decade. I think he has shown well considering we typically have neglected to go after talent at WR. I'd like to see him get another WR somewhere in rounds 1-3 that he could get to work with as well. I'm tired of WR being the weak link.

The Panthers with WR's are like the Bobcats/Hornets with 3 point shooters...they just seem to never have any consistency there. Seems like forever ago since we had Moose and Smith as two legitimate options to throw too; two options that perfectly complimented each other.

I think he did a fine job with KB and Brown this year.

But, he does not have a track record that justifies the Huddles opinion that he is one of the elite WR coaches in the league.

In my opinion, based upon the tools he has been given to work with, he has performed exceptionally well.

What exact criteria do you judge him on? Is there a chance that Bersin could have been a pro bowl player this year if he had whatever WR coach you consider to be a better option?

Proehl has more evidence of competency than of the opposite.

    • I always get lectured every year when we inevitably win some meaningless late season games to tank our draft position that we're building culture and you always have to try to win no matter what. This is why that's bullshit. Once you're out of contention it's to your competitive advantage to LOSE.
    • You’re tripping I hear what you’re saying but you’re not thinking of the benefits that trade gives us. We can then move around in the second round or late in the first to grab a specific player we covet like M Starks late in the 1st. Let me clarify if we’re at 21 we grab W Nolen or K Grant then trade up late in the 1 or early in the second giving up next years second for M Starks or T Amos there so much that can happen with that additional ammo.  Allowing us still so much leverage in next years draft as well with two first rounders we’d be dam crazy not to take a trade like that it’s not the big haul or heavy amount of picks we’re hoping for but it’s gets us multiple players especially ones we’ve seemed to taken a liking to like Nolen etc along with the safety from SC. or even a Luther B or James P early in the second. This nice influx in talent would help way more than a player like Jalon W. because of his high bust rate or probability  to bust….you know what I mean.  We need players we all know that those extra picks allow us to give up something this year to add key pieces from the 29-40 range that we may really like and have a need for (T Amos) and it not hurt as much because we’re stacked in round one of 26. Which could also be a pick one trade one scenario next year giving us more ammo to manipulate the draft to a winning situation for us long term. Al that to say we desperately need to be actively seeking a trade because we could add real talent in multiple spots this year and next with that current trade your opposing.
    • According to their list, the top guy hasn't put out a mock yet and the 2nd guy has us trading to 4 for Carter.
