Stephen Hill

Yessir, you are correct. Wrong choice of wording on my part. Measurables/attributes would have been the better choice of words.

Everyone talking so much about a players measurables is exactly why all of the focus on the combine has made this process wirk.

More talk about height and speed rather than what a guy dies on the field.

If you think Ron Rivera would take up a roster spot for a "charity case" then you don't know much about him.

Bersin earned everything he got last year. Had the best hands in camp. It was all merit based.

That's the problem sometimes with this coaching staff.  Just because they beast in training camp doesn't mean they deserve to be on the roster.  Case in point Armanti Edwards, Byron Bell, I could go on and on, one way or another you have to have talent and it shows on the football field.  Bersin will always be a number 4-6 receiver.  Stephen Hill has the talent to be more, will he?  Probably not, then again, the Jets are a poo hole of a team and do waste talented players.

I think Stephen Hill will suprise a lot of people and silent doubters. Let's retrace his career, he was a VERY raw prospect coming out of college and everyone knew this. He goes to the Jets in the 2nd round. Quite possibly the worst landing spot for a raw WR that needs real development and coaching. He had a mess at QB and despite all this he still put up over 500 rec yds and 5 TDs as a rookie with Mark Sanchez.

Give him an entire year an off season with Proehl and a chance for him to learn this offense and he could do great things. The fact he hasn't been cut yet is a good sign. He has the size and speed of Calvin Johnson and Proehl is his WR coach. I think he will suprise a lot of people

Bingo...I fully agree with your assumption.

The definition of a practice squad player is to help players on the 53 man roster get reps in practice. Hill is there so Anderson and Webb can get throwing reps and stay sharp for that week's game. Hill is also good for Melvin White, Carrington Byndom , and Robert Lester to practice their cover techniques on taller WRs. That's what Hill is getting paid for.

If he happens to start becoming a better WR in practice by not dropping balls thrown to him and starts making the same pre-snap reads as the QB and properly adjusting his route based on that read, then the coaches would start considering giving him playing time. Your speed and height don't mean jackpoo in the NFL if you can't consistently be where you're supposed to be and keep dropping the ball when you are.

    • I always get lectured every year when we inevitably win some meaningless late season games to tank our draft position that we're building culture and you always have to try to win no matter what. This is why that's bullshit. Once you're out of contention it's to your competitive advantage to LOSE.
    • You’re tripping I hear what you’re saying but you’re not thinking of the benefits that trade gives us. We can then move around in the second round or late in the first to grab a specific player we covet like M Starks late in the 1st. Let me clarify if we’re at 21 we grab W Nolen or K Grant then trade up late in the 1 or early in the second giving up next years second for M Starks or T Amos there so much that can happen with that additional ammo.  Allowing us still so much leverage in next years draft as well with two first rounders we’d be dam crazy not to take a trade like that it’s not the big haul or heavy amount of picks we’re hoping for but it’s gets us multiple players especially ones we’ve seemed to taken a liking to like Nolen etc along with the safety from SC. or even a Luther B or James P early in the second. This nice influx in talent would help way more than a player like Jalon W. because of his high bust rate or probability  to bust….you know what I mean.  We need players we all know that those extra picks allow us to give up something this year to add key pieces from the 29-40 range that we may really like and have a need for (T Amos) and it not hurt as much because we’re stacked in round one of 26. Which could also be a pick one trade one scenario next year giving us more ammo to manipulate the draft to a winning situation for us long term. Al that to say we desperately need to be actively seeking a trade because we could add real talent in multiple spots this year and next with that current trade your opposing.
    • According to their list, the top guy hasn't put out a mock yet and the 2nd guy has us trading to 4 for Carter.
