Ohio State Players and Panthers....

He showed off his route running at his pro day, and for the most part scouts were pretty impressed by it.

As for tracking, he's show the ability to track the deep ball and make contested catches over DBs lenty of times.

He's more than jsut a deep threat and tbh I don't think he'll make it out of round 1.

WEAKNESSES: Frustrating prospect because he shows the striding speed to stretch the field, but also inconsistent tracking skills, which makes him late to adjust and leads to focus drops. Aside from go routes downfield, he is unproven as a route-runner. His speed is mostly straight-line and his lean frame looks near maxed out.

We'll see. I'm not high on him at all, and don't think he'll be any more than an inconsistent #3 in this league. I honestly don't think there's a chance in hell he goes in round 1. Likely won't be there when we pick in the 2nd though, which I'm glad about.

I know teams sometimes get enamored with small school kids who they think can be hidden gems, but reality is you're better off drafting guys out of big schools who've faced the highest level of competition.

(and I say that as a guy who's not the world's biggest Ohio State fan)

I wouldn't like if Devin Smith was our 2nd round pick. He's overrated in my opinion and is pretty unknown at routes and tracking deep balls. Really really want us to get Agholor. He's my favorite WR prospect in this whole draft that's realistic for us. Honestly like him more than Strong, value-wise (obviously the top 3 are better, but they're not realistic for us). Would rather we get a guy like Landon or La'el Collins even if Strong is there, and then get Agholor in the 2nd. But I'm not sure he'll drop in the 2nd. I think it may be worth it to trade up for him.

Devin Smith wins running vertical routes and at the catching point deep down the field.he shows plus body control, and he is the best deep catcher (tracking the ball over his shoulder, adjusting to bad balls) in the draft. i can understand the unknown underneath routes, but that was because of the scheme, he wasn't asked to run many short to intermediate routes.

with that being said, during the combine, Ricky tweeted a pic of Devin right before he ran his 40. i think the panthers like him.
