Joe Montana NFL Football 16... AKA NFL 2k16... Madden's tyrannical monopoly coming to an end?

So sometime last year there was this football game announced call Joe Montana NFL Football 16... and it sort of just went under the radar.  It's been quite under wraps, and no one really knew anything about it.  Joe Montana just released cryptic tweets such as 'it's going to change the game #morethanjustarosterupdate'

 

Well now, if this is to be believed, there has been a leak and this game is actually 2k Sport's first NFL game since NFL 2k5 when they outclassed EA in every way... caused a panic, and EA subsequently countered with a blockbuster buyout of the exclusivity rights for the NFL license.  Apparently there's a loophole in the license where other developers can create NFL games as LONG as it's a first party title, for example, a Playstation or Xbox exclusive.  This has been confirmed as an Xbox One exclusive.

- The game was demoed and it went well. Actually, “well” is an understatement. People went crazy. NDA’s were and still are in place for them. That’s why you haven’t heard anyone saying anything, but a lot of people are having a very hard time because what they seen was unbelievable and it’s been impossible to go back to Madden or even take Madden seriously after that. It’s like, how you felt when you had an NES and you saw Sega Genesis for the first time. The step up in quality is THAT big.

 

- There are a few important modes. One is a story mode and it’s pretty cool. Think NBA 2K My Player. That’s what you’re getting.

 

-The graphics, animations and AI are all obscenely good and modern. It looks like a game that was built for this new generation, not just a port over from last generation with a ton of sloppy tweaks. The animations are easily the most crisp of any sports game ever made. Comparing the animations to Madden, it’s going make Madden look like a PS1 game by comparison. This is going to be embarrassing for EA Tiburon, like The Show Vs MLB 2K and NBA 2K vs NBA Live embarrassing.

 

- Expect Joe Montana NFL Football 16 out in Mid-late July.

I apologize to the team making this game and to Mr. Montana, but I feel that with just 4 months until release and a reveal schedule that really just strings everybody along unnecessarily, it was only right to tell people the truth so they can be prepared with enough time to act. Again, I’m deeply sorry but I know I’m doing the right thing.

I LOVED the 2k series and have to settle for madden garbage for a while.

I haven't bought any new ones since madden 10.

 

Yeah, if this is true... wow.  This is fuging huge.

 

Those quotes where it says it makes Madden look like a PS1 by comparison are awesome.  People have been sick of EA's poo for years - yet us football junkies would buy it anyways... Madden has been one of the biggest scams in gaming, but there was no other choice.

 

NBA 2K's MyPlayer mode is probably about the best thing going on in sports games right now.  God, what I'd do to have that in an NFL game.

This is fantastic news! I loved the 2K series on the Dreamcast. Now they just need to make a new, updated version of Toy Commander.

 

XBox one exclusive huh? I was waiting on the "one game" to push me over the edge on buying one. I was going to hold out for Star Wars Battlefront III but this sounds very promising.

Yeah, if playing a lame ass trading card game that encourages you to pay to win is your thing.

 

Sorry, this is definitely up for discussion... and MyPlayer blows that money grabbing poo away.  Hell, even Madden Ultimate Team is better than FUT.

No where did I say "it's the end of EA".

 

I just brought up the question is the Madden monopoly coming to an end?  EA is going to be around regardless.. they've got their hands on too many things.

 

But yes, 2K CAN and likely will blow Madden out the water with their NFL game.  They did it with 2K5 which caused EA to panic and buyout the NFL license to make it where 2K couldn't make another NFL game... and 2K has pretty much forced EA to even give up trying to make basketball games altogether just by having such a far superior product.

 

NBA 2K11 poo on NBA Live so bad that EA completely scrapped their basketball series that year - didn't even release it, and did so all the way up until last year.  They felt embarrassed to even try to put their product up against 2K's.  They're similarly scared the same thing will happen with football, that's why they just renewed the NFL license.

      I remember the Huddle consensus over the course of last season and the previous one. Lots of Bryce is a bust, we should've drafted a 4th slot WR, should've kept Wilks, should've kept an armless Cam, etc etc. So... yea... already thought about that. I wouldn't trust the Huddle to detail my car, let alone run a multi-billion dollar professional sports team. 😛

      bold prediction, I think Mike Green will be the best pass rusher in this class, and thats even with abdul carter.  He reminds me of demarcus ware, not just in size and prowess, but even coming from a Sunbelt school (Ware from Troy, Green from Marshall).  I think he is passionate about the sport where I think Carter as the physical freak might not have the heart.  Thats the guy Im sold on and am gonna hammer the table for, I know he's not projected 8, but he is projected like 12-13, so if a slide back can happen and we still get the guy I want, I'm 100% on board. All that said, it takes 2 to tango, I think the Cowboys are the tango-er.  IMO theres a VERY good shot that Jeanty is available at 8.  Why does that matter?  Not only do the cowboys NEED a runningback (dak sucks without a run game), but MORE importantly, gee where did Jeanty play in high school.....Frisco TX, literally Dallas Metro.  Soo, RB is a position of need and the best RB and most blue chip draft selection that  could improve the offense immensly played IN dallas metro AND will be in range for them to move up and pick?  Do ya think Jerry Jones is gonna just say no to the Jersey Sales?  Jerry might have sexually assaulted a woman and attempted to prevent black people from going to school, but he's no idiot (he is).  IMO, we get a good enough package, prlly their first and third,  maybe a conditional later and we move to 12.  We get Green, they get Jeanty, everbuddy happy.
