Saints still in bad shape capwise

The Panthers barely won a horrible NFCS last year, the Bucs will draft Winston and will be better this year. The Saints have 5 or 6 picks in the first 78, am assuming they will improve. Anyone who thinks we are going to waltz away with a third straight title are living in a fantasy world.

While are speculating about what changed lets remember that this year Cam will be healthy and not miss the offseason or camp, hopefully he has no more horrific accidents. The o line is much improved and largely set for the year and all those rookies will have experience in the system and will be experienced.  Add that I would take Gettleman drafting our 7 players over the Saints having 12 or 13 picks based on their history.  Heck we have found better options as UDFAs than they have found in the top 3 or 4 rounds. Look at their last 6 first rounders.

2014- Brandin Cooks

2013-kenny Vacaro

2011: Cameron Jordan, Mark Ingram

2010-Patrick Robinson

2009- Malcolm Jenkins

Only 3 of them are still on the team.

Compare that to the Panthers where the only one gone is Otah in 2008.

With the changes in the front office, I would hope the drafting improves. We've had a lot of success in the latter rounds and UDFAs, but the top of the draft has really been a disappointment. Last years draft hanging on by a string with Cooks. With Pace leaving and Ireland coming in, this should be the year to see if things improve, with all the draft picks.

Also, it should be noted, the Saints have had the fewest amount of picks in the draft since 2008, and it's by a pretty large margin.

Saw that, especially on defense. A few I'm not sure about, but know Jordan, Hicks, JJenkins, and Vacarro are draft picks. Lot of free agents on that side, especially secondary.

Were more draft picks on offense, but that took a hit with Graham and Stills gone.

Looks like the bet is that defense will get better with all those injured players coming back and the offense becoming more balanced between run/pass.

Do you trade them or was there a penalty?

Unless I'm really missing something, Jordan, Ingram, Vacarro, and Cooks are still on the roster....

The NFL is usually unpredictable, and the NFC south has proven to be more unpredictable than most.  A new coach in Atlanta may give them what they need to improve on the defense.  Winston may or may not be better, but he wont be any worse, and the Saints will be younger.  Who knows what will happen.
