Saints still in bad shape capwise

Those huge QB numbers make everything harder.

If you go for the gusto, and I probably would if I had a Brees, Brady, Manning, etc nearing the end, you do have to pay the piper at some point.

I fully expect the Charger and Steelers to do some ring chasing in the next couple years.

Tampa has some good talent on offense for sure and I think Winston could be successful there.  They still have a lot of holes and are probably still a couple years away from being competitive.

Atlanta is confusing.  They have some elite offensive talent but struggle to put it all together.  They were at their best when Michael Turner was battering defenses and having Matt Ryan throw daggers in play action.  Their defense was also at least mediocre then.  I think they improve on defense with the new coach but still struggle in the run game with that bad offensive line.

They're switching to a zone blocking scheme with smaller 1-cut-and-go RBs and smaller more athletic O-Linemen that like to chop block D-Linemen's legs. They cut Guard Justin Blalock who is not athletic enough to do that and are talking about last year's draft pick RB Devonta Freeman as the feature back in the new offense.

On defense they are hoping Quinn will take players they have and put them in different roles. Example is Mallaciah Goodman who played DE in college but was cast as a OLB by Mike Smith and had to lose like 30lbs. Quinn is having him bulk back up to play DE. As far as signings, they have wined and dined many players, but could only close the deal with average LBs (Brooks Reed-Texans, Jason Durant-Cowboys, O'Brien Schofield-Seahawks) and a first round bust DE (Adrian Clayborn-Bucs).

I don't get what NO is trying to do.  They dump some of their best players and eat all that dead money, restructure more contracts, to only sign more players to bad contracts.  You either fix your cap or improve your roster...and they've done neither.

They're trying to re-balance the offense instead of being so skewed to the pass for another shot at the SB while Breesus is there. Don't appear to be concerned about beyond 2016 with the back and forth they are doing with the salary cap, 1 day below it, the next day having to get the newly acquired players to re-structure their contracts.

Looked like a fire sale to us, but it's more of a last gasp at relevance, hoping that the problems on defense were just all the injuries they had and bringing in Browner to stop the bleeding at CB opposite Keenan Lewis. Offense was geared to improving the run with Unger and Spiller.

Its because NO still had to give the impression that they are trying to win now.

No one wants to spend $60-$70 bucks a game on a ticket to see poo on the field or a team that is obviously losing or rebuilding. NO before Katrina was barely able to sell out the stadium, was very close to moving the team to Texas, and they don't want to be in that situation again.

yep benson was in san antonio meeting with city brass trying to get the team moved while new orleans sat under water in 2005

but saints fans love that jackass and there's a statue of him in front of the stadium

Wouldn't surprise me one bit to see the Saints last in the NFC South next year and blowing the entire team up. Brees cut, Payton fired, the whole shebang.

Seems like a last ditch effort to save a sinking ship. Won't work. Defense will suck again and running more just takes the ball our of their best players hands...who has lost 2 of his best targets.

I love how them trying to win with Brees instead of all out tanking will just mean they get worse draft picks and will take even longer to rebuild when he eventually leaves.

Are they even going to have space to sign their rookies without additional moves?

Cam will never have a cap hit of $27M for us. Even with inflated salaries on a 2nd contract.

I can't concieve for a moment that Cam would think of aiming that high,or that Gettleman would allow one player to wreck our salary cap, the way Brees has done New Orleans.
