I don't get irritated when I shave it, I get irritated when it starts growing back. I'd think that would be the same with waxing?

Yea I caught that but it starts growing back as soon as you're done shaving.

With waxing it takes a good while to start growing back...since you've basically ripped the roots out of your skin vs. just shaving.

I'm single and shave every few week, every time that I've let it grow it gets irritating at some point, armpit hair too.

I shave my arms around where I have tattoos so that They are clear to see and more noticeable. I'm not very hairy on my arms though.

Any thoughts on minimizing irritation? 

Compromise with the wife would be one option.  Use clippers with a guard to thin out and shorten so that she gets a little of what she wants, and you don't get the razor bumps, ingrown hairs or itchy regrowth.  That's what I do in the summer now.

 

If you do shave completely use a good, sharp razor and shaving cream while in an almost unbearably hot shower (not at the sink), use lotion afterwards and don't shave on consecutive days.
