David Newton's latest mailbag provides some tidbits for thought, and reaffirmation that the draft is king for G-man in regards to WR.

About the Greg Hardy thing, that's just more evidence this franchise will be much better off when we have a new owner. I am in the minority but Football should only be about two things and two things alone.. Winning and making money. Greg Hardy would contribute to both of these things. Now ofcourse I have boundaries.. If a player did something horrible like murder or child molestation then yes, ban him from the league for life.

The only people that truly care about off the field incidents are the media, time and time again fans continue to buy tickets and apparel despite a player's off field issues. Smitty knocking out a team mate, Ray Rice jersey sales surging after the incident (as twisted as it is)

We can all agree that the Ravens are a good organization to follow, Ray Lewis was indicted for accessory to murder! He still stayed with the Ravens and became GOAT, if Richardson was the owner of the Ravens, Ray Lewis would have been cut immediately.

JR is too soft and too conservative for this team to ever get to Packers/Ravens/Patriots level of consistency contenders.

Personally I agree with you. BUT there certainly is something to what JR did for Olsen that influences how Olsen views the org. And the many comments from players about the current family atmosphere and how it influences their perceptions.

In the end, these are all humans and are influenced by their perceptions and emotions. So, in reality, it can't be black and white money and winning. Because people are involved. It can't be all love fest either because competitive humans want to compete and win. It's the balance.

And the good news is we seem to have the emotion thing mostly on the right track and the winning thing is trending up. And the money? Well. The NFL gonna NFL.

Well, Panthersunited believes him too.

You are in good company.

I can't say, because I don't know the dude. But at least he isn't part of the amen choir that kisses butt and belittles people with different opinions at every opportunity.

Not all opinions are belittled.

Just silly baseless ones. Not all opinions are the same. Some are indeed more well informed.

Sure, a "family atmosphere" is nice and all but my problem is when it seems like that takes precedent over winning. To be perfectly honest I wish we had more of a business first atmosphere like the Patriots. I know they are hated around here but if I would model after any team it would be the Patriots.

Take how they handled Browner and Revis. The Pats got a ring, browner and Revis got a ring and now both parties are shaking hands and going the separate ways.

Remember it was the personal and loyalty aspect that got us into this cap mess to begin with. I'm really not so sure its a good thing we are becoming TOO family atmosphere, I just don't want this team to go soft, I much prefer the business first mindset that Bellicheck has. I love his win at all costs attitude

It's why the 49ers will go down hill. Harbaugh took that team from the cellar to a SB appearance, NFC title appearance immediately but he gets let go because he is awkward and his personality?! When did this league get so soft and stop putting winning as the no 1 priorty?

Yeah, the thought of G-man wanting Hardy back, particularly at the request of his coach and other members of the team, is "silly"?  Yeah, that's just totally unreasonable.  Please.

First off, and this might simply be semantics, it is not Richardson's "fault" that GH is not coming back, a word a few posters here used.  It is Hardy's, of course.

Secondly, I think there is liklihood that Gettlemen and JR agree on the character issue.  JR interviewed DG when hiring him, and I am sure that they are philosophically similar in that area.  The "ticking time bomb" comment is something that he has lived by since arriving.  For example, Steve Smith was outspoken--ticking time bomb.  Avant became critical--high character guy, but he was critical--time bomb. What players with character issues has he even interviewed in free agency?  It is OK to point to JR, but I am not sure that I would separate his feelings from Gettlemen's.  I think they are cut from the same cloth.

I've been a soldier for 20 years and counting. Believe me I understand what you're saying. I'm not sure we are TOO soft. That's hard to gauge but I think we are on a sustained path of excellence. So starting with the family mentality and building talent and winning is as good a way as any to win a Superb Owl.

Having said that the harsh reality of business has to be a part of it and DG has shown me so far that he's certainly capable of it.

So I'm happy with where we're at and where we're headed. It's not all pretty but it's trending in the right direction. And that's good enough for me...for now.

The fact is Gettleman is the quintessential company man who is not going to publicly undermine his boss. That would be arguably stupid and unprofessional.  This truth leaves fans and those within the media to speculate.  I don't necessarily think that it's a good thing or a bad thing.  It just is.  Gettleman, like most GMs, is going to do what the owner tells him to do, and will only make a decision freely if the owner gives him that latitude.  We all realistically know that Richardson did not give him that latitude.

Gettleman didn't plan on having him back as far back as training camp.

Training camp was before the Ray Rice video came out and at that time Hardy was not going to fit into the Panthers financially. A lot has changed since then and Hardy is now affordable for the Panthers. That changes a lot of things and Gettleman may very well be willing to take Hardy back at a reduced price. If you go back and look at the list of things Hardy would need to do to return, most of those things were very Jerry-centric which indicates that this is not just a Gettleman decision and the directive comes from the top.

I know Rivera wanted him back, I believe JR doesn't. No clue about gettleman

If JR wanted him he'd be back bottomline so I'm

With you there, as far as Gman goes I feel if he really wanted him more would have been said and a stronger case made for him to stay which was never heard or mentioned so no one can honestly convince me he wanted him here either
