i don't think you understand how it works. I'm quite confident David Gettleman's abilities were used to find top 5 free agents on the market that any fan can do on rotoworld. I am pretty sure that if David Gettlmean was the one scouting and signing Plaxico Burress in NY, then Ernie Accorsi orJerry Reese were just stealing money and were literally doing nothing. The General Manager signs and brings in players like Plaxico and Pierce. Gettleman's job in NY was to target players like Teddy WIlliams.

Yes and no. His job was to evaluate the players vs their worth. The fact they signed big ones shows that he was able to say they are worth that money. And now he gets to make that decision.

I see what you're saying, it's just a difference of philosophy. I prefer the way we're building. The Colts are stacking their O, we're stacking our D.

I happen to be biased towards defense.

It is a great philosophy to have and has obviously led to a great number of super bowls. But Ron got the job, I am assuming, because he is known as a great defensive mind.

It's like the Jets under Rex. Why were they constantly stacking up on the defense while their offense could use a complete and total make over? Isn't Rex supposed to be a genius guru? (No, I am not saying we are the Jets)

If I hired Chip Kelly, I am not then going to load up on offense. You got the job because you could do more with less. Prove it.

That is the only thing I really question about this specific approach we are taking.

Really? Tell me why. What have we given Cam? Ginn, Cotch and Bersin? You happy with that?

well the statement i called absurd was you claiming Gettleman is the only GM who would ever give his QB a rookie WR to be his number 1 option. And if the Panthers signed Hakeem Nicks I would be extremely happy with Benjamin/Nicks/Ginn Jr./Philly along with Olsen and Dickson.

this is an absurd statement.

It's Chuck, that's pretty much expected. He's trying to make a point, just not doing so well at it.

In reality though, how many QB's have you ever heard of who while heading into a contract year, having offseason ankle surgery, had their entire WR core cleared out, and on top of all this, had a rookie as his #1 WR. I can't think of any off the top of my head.

We pour a lot of resources into our defense, and I'm okay with that. Problem is though, our defense was fairly atrocious at certain points last season. We paid the price for our offseason approach to the offense early on last season, we were blown out 6 times.

Things got better as the season went on, part of that was because our defense improved, but we were still limited in our ability to score points, mainly because the only speed we had was a UDFA WR from Ohio State. We signed Ginn, but there is still room to improve.

Ultimately that is what most people here want, to keep improving.

If we want to keep up with NFC teams like Seattle and Green Bay, we have to be able to score points. It's that simple, and last season in the playoffs against Seattle it clearly showed that we lacked the firepower to keep up. We don't have to break the bank to do this.

Do you want me to go back and see what you were posting in the extension threads for DWill, Stew, Beason, Anderson, Godfrey, Kalil, Johnson threads?

If you liked those signings then, you have to deal with us not being able to help Cam more now.

The only one I liked was CJ's, even though it was more than it should have been, at least he's a legit player, at a very important position.

To be fair Gettleman flat out called these past 2 years rebuilding years. How many teams have you ever seen be in a rebuilding phase win back to back division titles.

We do have to admit.. We made the playoffs last year because of a rule.. We weren't one of the 12 best teams in the league last year..

We got lucky being in a crappy division. .

I don't think he's ever used the word "rebuilding". I could be wrong though. Mostly it's been about salary cap restraints.

Yeah man I'm happy with another division title and a playoff win too.

But I'm not going to lie to myself, we had luck with that and we were also surrounded by a crumbling division.

That isn't going to happen every year though, other teams improve too.
