For the "Cam ain't got weapons" crowd.

Pierce is D, I'm talking O only.

I missed the McKenzie one.  Like I said in the OP, I'm sure I'm going to miss one.

listen i am not even really trying to argue with you because i agree with most of your points. the people bitching and moaning about Randall Cobb  and Mike Wallace need to go away. Personally I would have signed Torrey Smtih at the contract he got but I can fully understand why Gettleman didn't want to go there for a one trick pony. I just loved the fact that he won a Super Bowl, he is very young, and is extremely fast. But lets not pretend like Hakeem Nicks and Michael Crabtree wouldn't be a huge improvement over Jerricho Cotchery. I can understand the crowd who are upset about us not pursuing players like that.

Gettlemen is entitled to build this team how he sees fit. He is the GM and it is his job, and no one else, that is on the line at the end of the day.

I think there are any number of ways to build a team and be successful, including trying to build a strong defense to keep the scoring down in games. But this is personally not the way that I would have built the team around Newton...

I would probably take the Colt's approach, and hire a Defensive Head Coach, make him prove his defensive genius, and then immediately try to load up on offensive talent and surround my No. 1 overall QB with everything he could ask for on his side of the ball...including some of his college coaches and teammates that he was successful with...

But it is completely absurd that people cheer on our Front Office's approach in the off-season, and then complain about our lack of offensive production in-season...If you want your team to win in a shoot out with Aaron Rodgers in late October, you should have been crying about Cam Newton having as a No. 1 WR a rookie in late May.

Otherwise you need to blame the Front Office for not giving the Panthers a defense that could stop the Packer's offense.

Do I think Cam could use another offensive weapon or two? Sure. But to me, a QB's best weapon is a dominant defense.

Stewart and the offensive line, IMO, was the second biggest reason for our turn around. The biggest reason was the return of our top 5 D.

Keep the D strong, if you do, you keep the Panthers strong. You keep the panthers strong, Cam will have success...

To add, as far as drafting, I don't mean to ignore the offense and only draft on D. I'm a big BPA guy. This is just for those looking for us to spend big money of offensive skill positions in free agency because Cam "needs weapons". That's a no no, IMO.

No problem with the way Gettlemen is doing his job for the most part.. I love having a monster defense. .

But when you have a franchise QB.. you don't always have to dumpster dive to surround him with talent. .

And we can all agree.. last year we complete dumpster dive on offense. ..

I see what you're saying, it's just a difference of philosophy. I prefer the way we're building. The Colts are stacking their O, we're stacking our D.

I happen to be biased towards defense.

It's because we had to.  It will not always be that way, but it was last year, and this year.

Once Cam is locked up, and KB is a little better, I have little doubt that we will start to lean heavily on the offense.

Well Fuzz that's the point...

You can't make a thread acting like Cam has been giving a normal amount of talented weapons and we shouldn't complain.. But admit in the same thread that we completely dumpster dive the talent around him. .

We might have had to but it doesn't make it right...

So let's try and copy the only two teams in the league that don't go after free agents to validate our cheapness.

Instead of trying to emulate the last 3 SB champs all who were active in free agency and FA players played a big part in winning those SB.

Logic not even once

The thread was made to show that you don't have to go out and spend huge amounts of money on other teams players if you draft well and have an able QB.

We just got the able QB 4 years ago, and have started drafting well over the past two seasons.  I don't think for a minute that we can't do what the Steelers and Giants did back then within the next 4 years.  However, if we try for it all now (Colts) I have a real fear that we will not be able to continue down this path.

Slow and steady won the race for the Steelers and Giants, I'm happy with that approach going forward.

What was the name of the Giants pro talent evaluator that literally signed all 3 of those big name free agents? I forget.

i don't think you understand how it works. I'm quite confident David Gettleman's abilities weren't used to find top 5 free agents on the market that any fan can do on rotoworld. I am pretty sure that if David Gettlmean was the one scouting and signing Plaxico Burress in NY, then Ernie Accorsi orJerry Reese were just stealing money and were literally doing nothing. The General Manager signs and brings in players like Plaxico and Pierce. Gettleman's job in NY was to target players like Teddy WIlliams.

The point is, it's not like DG has some sort of aversion to spending money on people. He has never had the money to do so since being here. Some people act like he doesn't want to vice he can't. He has a history of identifying big name talent that will help the team. And when the team is financially in a position to spend that money, there's no reason to think he won't since he advocated the signing of every big name free agent in the above list. Relax everyone.

And again as other have stated there aren't but a few talking about breaking the bank for anybody. .

Most just want the team to do more than bringing in a Boykin's. . There is happy medium between dumpster diving and breaking the bank..
