For the "Cam ain't got weapons" crowd.

Um....Eli's was a little more than Cams but was a 7 year contract (bad for player)

Ben's was less than Cam's and was a 6 year contract.  (bad for player)

Cam signed a 4 year contract with a huge option year (better for player)

You can try your best to change the facts, but the fact is, the Panthers have seen this blueprint work, and they are going to photocopy it.

Eli's total cap hit during the first 5 years $43,103,332

Ben's total cap hit during the first 5 years $52,304,882

Cam's total cap hit during the first 5 years $36,692,164

you also made no mention of how the cap has gone up significantly since back then. Name one player the Panthers went out and got better than Plaxico Burress. He was one of the top free agents on the market at any position the year he was a free agent. You also pointed out that the Giants draft a couple of 3rd round Wide Receivers. The Panthers highest pick was on a 4th round WR in Joe Adams who they strictly brought in for the return game. The Giants also spent a 1st round pick on Nicks like we did Kelvin. Lets look at the first 4 drafts that included Eli Manning compared what the Panthers did in the first 4 drafts that included Cam.

2004: Eli Manning QB, Chris Snee OG, Jamar Taylor WR, Derrick Ward RB

2005: Brandon Jacobs RB

2006: Sinorice Moss WR

2007: Steve Smith WR, Kevin Boss TE, Adam Koets OT, Ahmad Bradshaw RB

The next 2 years after that they spent 3 more picks on WR in Hakeem Nicks, Ramses Barden, and Mario Manningham.

In his first 6 years they drafted 6 WR, 1 TE, 3 RB, and brought in one of the top free agent WR on the market for Eli.

The Panthers have drafted 2 WR, Pilares and Adams (who was brought in to be a returner) and 2 RB in Barner and Gaffney.

I am not even sure why I am arguing this because again I have faith in Gettleman, but lets not pretend like the weapons given to Cam have not been a secondary issue since he has been here.

then if you want to take a look at the Steelers they had a similar philosophy as the Giants after they drafted Roethlisberger.

They drafted a TE and a bunch of OL in 2004 with Ben.

2005 they went TE first round, 2 OL, WR, and RB

2006 they went WR first round, another WR, 3 OL, and a RB

So once they found there QB they started doing everything to put weapons around their young QBs.

I wonder how many UDFA linemen that these teams had? I bet their GM drafted tackles at least once. #jussayin

In the first 4 drafts when they drafted their franchise QB the Steelers drafted 3 OT (one in the 2nd round) and the Giants drafted 2. The Giants also spent big money on Kareem McKenzie who was an integral part to their Super Bow. The Panthers have drafted 1 in the 7th round mainly because he was teammates with Cam at Auburn.

The point of this thread is to show that Super Bowl winning teams do not have to go out and spend big money in FA to win a Super Bowl.

These two teams had great D's, and a capable QB, very similar to us.

Out of the 4 super bowls, you had 1 large offensive FA signing.  That's it, 1.

We are drafting well, not overpaying outsiders, and are going to be able to keep our own talent in house for the foreseeable future.  Life is good here, not great yet, but good.

You want to give DG 4 drafts to match that?

Where all these people screaming for us to go out and blow a billion dollars on free agents?

From what I have seen, most are simply saying to weigh our options, and many of them will not require "big money".

Have you read the forum the last few days?  Smith, AJ, Crabtree, Royal, Cobb, the always mentioned Nicks, etc....

About half the posts here are about adding weapons for Cam, and while I agree with them, at least put some numbers with the names.

I have full faith that DG knows we need more outside weapons, but not at the cost of not being able to re-sign Norman, Cam, or Luke.  These WR's are getting crazy money on FA, money that we can't afford to spend.

As to weighing options, I bet DG has talked to every single FA WR's agent of note, but none fit the $$$ so far.

Antonio Pierce 6 years $19 million

Kareem McKenzie 7 years $21 million

Plaxico Burress 6 yes $17 million

Pierce is D, I'm talking O only.

I missed the McKenzie one.  Like I said in the OP, I'm sure I'm going to miss one.

that wasn't the argument. the argument was weapons around Cam since he's been drafted. if you want to use Gettleman as the case then you have to take away Ben's first Super Bowl because that was his rookie year.

This team, is in no way being run like the previous regime.  You can't compare them.

Most here knew Torrey Smith, and Randall Cobb were never a realistic option money wise.

Crabtree, Royal, and Nicks could have worked though.

Johnson, while an option, likely wasn't going anywhere but Indy though pretty much.

Got dam nobody is saying break the bank for Randall Cobb or Michael Crabtree. .

All most are saying is make a effort Draft or FA to add weapons. .

How about instead of taking B oykins to dinner you look at a Nicks or Moore 1st. .
