70 million reasons to be very optimistic heading into next season.

For those in a panic (which I admit included me a few days ago until I came to my senses) 70 million.. Let that number sink in, 70 MILLION. That number right there represents what our cap space will be next off season, hard to believe after these years in cap hell huh?

Lets me put into perspective how good of shape we will be in next year. This year we have peanuts 13 million in cap space and we dont even have our two franchise players in Cam or Kuechly locked up long term.

Next year, lets assume Cam's contract will be 20 mill a year and Kuechly's contract will be 15 million a year, that means AFTER we extend BOTH Cam AND Kuechly, we will still have a very solid 35 million left in cap space. I bet you anything if someone told you we would have 35 million in cap space next season, you would be ecstatic. Now imagine if someone told you we will have 35 mill in cap space while having Cam and Kuechky locked up long term.

Now yes I understand we will still have quite a few players we still need to sign but Cam and Keek are the two biggies, after those two are locked up its smooth sailing.

I cant wait to see what Gettleman does next year with all this newfound cap wealth. Are we going to go full retard and sign a Suh? Ofcourse not, but a Torrey Smith type signing will be very realistic next season even AFTER we lock up Cam and Keek. That my friends is reason for optimism.

Someone correct me, but how much of that extra 35M will go to signing bonus for Cam, and Luke? What about incentives? We will not have 35M probably more like 20-25M, but I get what your saying. We still need another top performing DE. How much will Norman command when he re-signs?

we aren't going to be active in FA next offseason either.

We are a team that builds through the draft. Most of that free cap space will go toward extending a few of our younger players.

I'm thinking we will sign one notable player, just because you build through the draft doesn't mean you can't sign just one good FA. I could see a Torrey Smith level signing next season for a player. Like someone mentioned before, the Giants did sign notable FAs when Gettleman was with them, it's called diversification.

I think people see one season we hit it out of the park in last year's draft and think we are just going to do that every single year, I think last year's draft is making people over confident thinking we can repeat that every draft and we don't need anymore FAs, that's a bad mindset to have.

For every late round pick you draft studs like Boston and Bene, you also going to have drafts we draft duds like Gaffney, Kugbilla and Barner

you know why we have that much cap space?  Because 24 of current players contracts expire at the end of

this year.  Let them all walk and we have that much cap space.  We're going to spend most of that

money on our own players.

Signed through 2015 (24)

DE Frank Alexander

QB Derek Anderson

FB Richie Brockel

WR Jerricho Cotchery

LB Thomas Davis

DE Wes Horton

LS J.J. Jansen

LB Luke Kuechly*

S Robert Lester

DT Kyle Love

QB Cam Newton

CB Josh Norman

P Brad Nortman

TE Greg Olsen

WR De’Andre Presley

T Mike Remmers

I don't see many we keep that we haven't already extended besides the trio of luke, Cam and norman. They should lock up Remmers and TD soon but other than that.....let them walk.

I'm taking a page form ted thompson book here and dave should consider it too. When cam signs his mega deal have ALL (or 90%) of the signing bonus hits at once. Ted did that with rodgers, 40 million cap hit in one year. After that one year its just basic salary and the cap hit is around 10 million rather than 16/17 million. In a way its very smart, IF you have that one year of cap space and your true QB stud as a FA. Every other deal afterwards becomes much easier cause you have another 6 million leftd to use.

Also there is no such thing as being out of cap hell form the panthers. Sign cam and luke that's great....... guess who's next? Star should get a big deal, KK should get a big deal, then KB on a 100 million deal, then ealy, turner, bene, etc etc. Josh norman needs a new deal right now........ its the con for drafting good/great players, if you want to keep them it will cost you cap space. If you hit on ALL seven draft draft pick one year plus find 3UDFAs gems, that will be a HUGE cost the keep all 10.

Frank alexander is not a UFA, cause of his susp during his rookie contract. The panther should hold a option to keep me for another year at a cheap rate.
