70 million reasons to be very optimistic heading into next season.

I am not paniking either. Most of the teams that spend big in free agency are sitting at home in January. I think Gettleman is doing a solid job trying to build through the draft and add mid level pieces through free agency.

I agree with you but when DG was with the Giants he brought in some pretty high caliber guys in FA. Guys like Plaxico Burress, Antonio Pierce, Sean O'Hara and Antrel Rolle come to mind. So he's certainly capable of spending money...when he has it.

and by 2016 we'll have a half decade of solid drafts stocking the roster from talented young kids to guys in their prime, finally setting us up for a system where we've got a proper balance of contracts, rooks, vets, and the ability to sign free agents to plug gaps where they happen to exist.

this really is a half-decade project to fix one of the most underrated management disasters in sports history and chances are we're going to make the playoffs three out of the four years it's taking to get us there. our window is gonna be open for a full decade at least.

We will also need to consider what kind of money Norman is going to demand.  If he has another year like last season he is going to command some pretty big bucks on the open market.  Some CB's have gotten some pretty fat contracts these last few days.

I'm optimistic going into this season.

Me too.  People need to realize that this team, with a few pieces, could have beaten Seattle in Seattle in the playoffs.  That game was our measuring stick because our new players were in place.  The game was close until Cam's pick, which equated to a 14-point swing. Gettlemen is building depth and creating competition, but some on this board want $50m in free agents to fix what aint broke.

We need a LT.  However, most NFL teams do.  It is a time-consuming, extensive process. Oher was not the cheapest option, he was the best option.  Everyone seems upset that we did not find another Joe Thomas in free agency.  They were upset when Gettlemen let Tampa steal Anthony Collins from us last year.  We upgraded, will draft youth to groom.  Problem addressed the only way it can be. Move on, people.

We need a #2 WR.  The market is a bit depressing and it seems each player in free agency has an asterisk.  The draft is loaded and cheaper.  We had success with rookie WRs last year, so why not one more time?  I am convinced that WR is an early pick.

What else do we need to win in 2015?  A nickel?  Not hard to find.  A RT?  We have one, but a rookie late can compete.  A RB?  The draft is full of them.  Heck, even if we don't get a DE this year, can we survive with Johnson, Ealy, Addison, Alexander, and Horton?  Better than most of the league.

This team needs a draft and they are good to go.

WR

OT

DE

CB

I expect Gman to find some talent.

For those in a panic (which I admit included me a few days ago until I came to my senses) 70 million.. Let that number sink in, 70 MILLION. That number right there represents what our cap space will be next off season, hard to believe after these years in cap hell huh?

Lets me put into perspective how good of shape we will be in next year. This year we have peanuts 13 million in cap space and we dont even have our two franchise players in Cam or Kuechly locked up long term.

Next year, lets assume Cam's contract will be 20 mill a year and Kuechly's contract will be 15 million a year, that means AFTER we extend BOTH Cam AND Kuechly, we will still have a very solid 35 million left in cap space. I bet you anything if someone told you we would have 35 million in cap space next season, you would be ecstatic. Now imagine if someone told you we will have 35 mill in cap space while having Cam and Kuechky locked up long term.

Now yes I understand we will still have quite a few players we still need to sign but Cam and Keek are the two biggies, after those two are locked up its smooth sailing.

I cant wait to see what Gettleman does next year with all this newfound cap wealth. Are we going to go full retard and sign a Suh? Ofcourse not, but a Torrey Smith type signing will be very realistic next season even AFTER we lock up Cam and Keek. That my friends is reason for optimism.

Luke will not demand 15 million a year, mayyyyybe 12. And I'm still optimistic Cam takes 18 a year
