Yea, doesn't really work that way.  He'll get a little more than the highest contract a MLB has gotten up to that point.  Hopefully we get him paid with a quickness and don't wait on a game of oneupsmanship between his agent and Bobby Wagner's.

I would be thrilled to get Luke resigned to a 12mil contract but with the cap increasing rapidly, him pretty much being a consensus top 5 defensive player, and us having plenty of cap space.  It wouldn't shock me whatsoever for him to end up with 15 a year, or even more.
