The reason Cam isn't in a hurry to sign a contract

There are several people on the Huddle that act like Cam is their buddy. Like they chatted over lunch and know exactly what he is thinking. Don't pass off your own train of thinking as Cam's. To the credit of the OP, he started by admitting he could be wrong.

I played Cam in Madden once

So you're calling Cam a liar? Wow....

This is the business. Gettleman straight up told us last year that he didn't believe we were taking a step back. Then after the season he came out and said he knew it was going to be a tough season, basically admitting we indeed took a step back. He lied. Players, coaches, gms, and agents all lie. Especially when it comes to contract negotiations. Cam isn't sold on Carolina's ability to build a winner. I believe there was a recent article that stated such. He has to protect his brand and his image in charlotte. So he has to say he wants to be here and he also needs an excuse as to why he hasn't signed yet. It's not even lying, because I'm sure he wants the market to reset after the Kaep deal, but it's not the whole truth.

You have to look at it from Cam's view and not as a fan of the Panthers. Cam was drafted here and since he's been here, he's gotten very little help on the offensive side of the ball. He's going to look out for Cam above all else and he should.

All you have to do is follow his actions to know what he's thinking. There are a lot of people who believe Cam wants to be a free agent. I'm one of them and so are guys like Clinton Portis.

GMan has told us from day ONE that this was going to be a multi-year process. I've never seen one quote where he said he didn't think we were going to take a step back last year. I'm pretty sure almost EVERYONE knew we were.

All you ever do is take what someone is saying and come up with your own convoluted meaning, which usually involves some ridiculous conspiracy or hate against the team.

Seriously....just switch the Colts since you're so impressed with the way they spend in FA.

Letting all your players that you would like to keep walk because you can't afford them and having to replace them with stopgaps who aren't as good = Dollar Store

Retaining all of your wanted players and signing them to multi-year deals to keep important pieces together = Target.

Why is it so hard to understand how much better we've been in FA this year than last?

Remember last year we argued about our WR situation? You told me it was early many times. I believe you even said Avant was better than Lafell. You want to discuss that again? We view things differently. You think our glass is half full and I think it's half empty. I'm not a Gettleman fan I'm a panthers fan. We're a lot bigger than one rouge GM. You want to believe and I get that, you want to believe there's some master plan where we're going to be great. Have to be careful, the teams with all the cap space aren't usually the best teams.

It's not that hard to understand.

But you have some people who don't know how to do anything but whine and b--ch.

Who have we kept that other teams would be dying to sign?

I expect him to hold on and get happily franchise tagged after this year. By my calculations, it should set him at about $19 million for that year, which is a king's ransom. After that he'll negotiate down to a more reasonable salary.

It's not a bad gamble especially when a mobile quarterback starts looking at how hard keeping a job will be in the eighth and ninth years of his career.

If he signs before the end of this season, he'll either be leaving money on the table or he'll be getting such a huge contract it'll break the team.
