We Have 4, 1-Trick Pony Receivers

I'm just wishing we could have more versatility and more of a talent pool to fish from and get guys whode role in the team is included in more than one or two plays.

if you look at my past posts, you won't find me calling for big splash players, I love that we are building from the inside out....keeping the talent from good draft picks and improving every year as roles become more diverse and better defined.

heck, I wish all our players were those drafted by us and I don't covet other teams castoffs or signing big name urfa. we don't have the cash first off and we have no clue about how other teams players will contribute to or fit in our system.

but if their is a guy who can legitimately replace 3 of our current players or more and the trade off

in salary is comparable, I want it done.

add up Bersin, philly, hill and corchery's salary and I'll bet you we can find a pretty darn good #2/1receiver to replace them.

Give Bersin, Philly and Hill a chance because they are still young and still have time to improve. Philly is probably the most likely to succeed. He really came on towards the end of the year and showed he could be a solid #3 WR. Bersin is at best a #4 WR and you need to have depth to be successful. I hope Hill can grow into the player he was supposed to be but it's hard to predict his future.

As much as we want to sign Crabtree, Nicks and Shorts as our #3 and #4 WR and draft one in the first round we don't have the cash to do so.

not only two types, just that we only have 2-types. there are quick guys that can be great in the slot, there are fast guys that get separation by timing and precise route running. there are guys that are good in seam routes, because of their size or speed. just looking for a guy that can do it all and wondering if that guy is out there. sure would be nice to cut 3 receivers and use their combined salaries for that 1 versatile receiver.

You can get Justin Hardy in the third and get a receiver that has okay speed but runs the best routes of most receivers out there. Runs the whole tree and is great after the catch. Solid hands and best of all he returns punts and kick offs. Problem solved......

We can probably count on two hands how many times we ran 4 WR sets

I agree we rarely use them unless its a hail mary, or 3rd and long and even then we used to run the draw everytime. I do think Bersin has talent, more importantly hands. Cam does not throw easy passes, Cam throws hard, real hard. We need hands as much as we need speed. Bersin fits that role, move him to the slot, but we do not run many 3WR sets except Shula's Patented 3WR Bunch formation. I think some huddlers have the right thought in mind. Do not worry too much about receivers as I expect heavy 2 TE formations next year, now that we have Brockel and Tolbert back.
