Why Gettleman is a GM... and you aren't.

good thing he got us in the NFC South

We were the 3rd best team in football in 2013, his 1st year, and coulda/shoulda/woulda been the best if DeAngelo doesn't fumble. Also beat the 2nd best on the road. And division champs last year without 10% of the cap.

We might have looked like we belong if only we would have won a playoff game with a stifling defensive performance, made it inothe top eight and been able to hang toe to toe with the prior year's world champs for around three quarters of a game, at least.

Shame nothing like that happened, huh?

We played the worst QB to ever start a NFL game. And we gave up a perfect 3rd down passer rating to Russell Wilson. Funny how that "stifling" defense couldn't manage a turnover or a 3rd down stop against a subpar offense.

Replace Star with Kyle Love and take away 10% of our cap/franchise DE, and suddenly a game of inches becomes a game of many inches.

Nobody made Gettleman rent Hardy for 13 million. Nobody made him release Smitty who I would take 100000990xs over Bersin in that situation. He played with fire and got burned. Lucky for him we played in the worst division in football last year and still couldn't manage a winning season.

How can one have a valid point when they keep ignoring the lingering cap issues caused by the former gm and not the current? I don't mind signing a mid tier vet if they are worth it and wont be overpaid. Nor am i a guy that bitches when we don't sign a vet.

Sure we had a loser record and managed to stumble our way into the playoffs. Do i like we made it in? YES..do i hate the fact we lost? Yes. Should we have been in the playoffs? No

Even after drafting cam newton in 2011 and trading for olsen I formerly believe we still had no business sniffing the playoffs. Not because i'm a hater. But because i saw holes at other spots and knew it would take a few years to fix them and that others would crop up because of the cap problems and that overreacting and signing a guy way more than he is worth in free agency is not the idea way to do it. We will have more cap space next year and the year after that. If we still don't go after guys then? Then yes you, i, and others would have a point in complaining. Now? no.

Well, that's your point, and you're free to have it. Some of us think that we would do well to sign a mid to lower tier vet (depending on definition), and that by doing so it would help our receiving corps and playoff prospects to be in a much stronger position. Playoffs? Well, we were in there, so no use to saying that we shouldn't have been. All I know is that I'd like to continue to go back, and signing a cheap vet who has valuable experience and can make a difference on the field makes me feel more secure in our ability to do that. I don't believe, like others, that we should overpay for anyone, but I also believe that there may be a couple of options this year---not next---notwithstanding our cap that we may be able to sign once the smoke settles. Being that the 2015 free agency period is still relatively early I hope that we can sign a guy, but if we don't, we don't. In that scenario, we will just have to put more emphasis (hopefully) on drafting to upgrade holes at the position.

Now that is how I feel. It's a little different than way you feel, or perhaps how others feel, but it's no more or less valid.

What some people need to learn is that there is more than one way to get to Raleigh. Some take I40, some take US1, some take US70, some take HWY50, some take US264 and some take HWY401. They are all valid ways.

I agree actually. My point was more toward the people complaining that we didn't sign a top tier thus overpaying. I'm not opposed to signing someone when the dust settles which wouldn't harm our cap and thus the chance to resign luke/cam  I don't want us to go overboard thus having what looks like to be a bright future with money to spend to once again be in cap space hell. Either be it this year, next, or after that. I want long term success not just one year and then fire sale because we spent too much. Surely everyone can agree on that?
