Gettleman: Oher can be answer at left tackle

You just don't lose god given abilities unless you sustain major injuries. Oher hasn't had major injuries that would be career ending. Maybe a change of scenery and his old oline coach and get him back on track. I would hate to be stuck in the zombie apocalypse with some of you guys

...the negativity is mind numbing.

The only thing I like about this is the fact that Remmers who has been playing well at RT does not have to move.

DG said something similar about Bell last offseason. The results weren't pretty. Unless I see Oher play better he can't convince me he's the answer at tackle.

I think a lot of you underestimate how scheme and coaching familiarity can affect players mentally which in turn affects play on the field...I'm not saying oher is gonna be an all pro LT but I do feel reuniting him with Matsko and having an organization that shows even a little bit of belief in him can only help him! We can all agree he is better than Byron bell and Nate Chandler so either way this is an improvement

You mean like Norwell, Turner, and Remmers???

or are you like 95% of the other over-reactors here that just focus on the failed LT experiment with Bell and Chandler?

DG has drastically improved the state of our line in his first two seasons and (like it or not) he just upgraded the LT position by letting Bell walk. Granted, a stationary tackling dummy would be an upgrade over Bell, but Oher is an upgrade. Furthermore, he's paired Oher with his old OL coach. If there is anyone in the league that knows how to get the best out of Oher, it is going to be him.

I don't love the idea of Oher being our best option at LT, but i'm happy that the Byron Bell experiment has finally come to an end and excited to see if Oher can be coached up to his prior playing level.

If you don't know anything about my post history, don't guess. I realized we didn't have many options last year, and I realize he wasn't going to come out and say "we're screwed at tackle" publicly.

But this reeks of the Bell treatment from last offseason. In other words, I don't really think Gettleman is really confident that Oher is our answer at left tackle. He's just trying to warm the fanbase up to the worst case scenario like he did last year.

Nothing that Gettleman stated said that we wouldn't draft a tackle early....Do you think he's going to come out and say "Hey we're taking the best tackle on the board?"  of course not...We brought in Cotchery and  Avant last year and still drafted KBB...Honestly what other tackle was available in FA? Jake Long can't stay on the field, that's why the Rams dropped him......Gettie says relax

We had no money, so you have to make the best of nothing. I am sure he would rather have brought in a stud LT, but he couldn't say that in the press. They knew what they had and hoped they would make the most of it.

Note that Gettlemen says that Oher "CAN"  not "WILL".  Look for an OT in the draft.

There is absolutely no excuse for him thinking Bell could play LT and protect our franchise QB after he was so terrible the year before.  But he's left handed!  Go ahead and defend him though, blindly.  He had a great draft last year, no joke, but he was completely wrong when it came to our offensive line last offseason.  They could have signed a refridgerator off craigslist for $75 that could have blocked better than Bell, and guess what?  99% of this board KNEW Bell and Chandler would be terrible, but yet our expert talent scout didn't know?

Oher could work out, but still need to draft.  Hopefully he isn't just "ok" going with Oher like last year with Bell.

I agree with you, but I don't think he had a choice.  If I am not mistaken, it was Rivera that had faith in Bell and his left hand.  Gettlemen may have erred by trusting his coach's estimation of Bell.  Even if not, we were still in cap hell.  I think Gettlemen's goal was to get totally out of cap hell before Cam's rookie contract expired.  It was never to be a 1-year process, especially when you have 3-4 year bad contracts to wade through.

Offensive Tackle is an expensive position to fix--like QB.  When we went with Bell, we were basically like the Browns having to go with Hoyer.  Hope he doesn't hurt you while you are building.

This is the year we address OT.  Last year, the draft did not present a T he liked--he admitted that.  Collins (now cut) was the best free agent.  He did not have options or money.

Oher is an upgrade.  If Matsko can work his magic, he could do the job.

The O-Line is more than just tackles. Look at who Gettleman actually brought into the O-Line: Remmers, Norwell and Turner all proved to be good starting caliber O-linemen. You can shout about Chandler and Bell being mistakes, but at the same time acknowledge his successes before questioning his scouting ability.

Good god you are annoying. He's been here 2 years and Jordan Gross was his LT one year. The 2nd year they literally had no money and tried out Byron Bell. Byron Bell was such a disaster that they won the division and a playoff game.

Yeah but what does your source have to say
