It is a process. Our D-line allowed only 3.2 yds per carry to Ray Rice last night. We got one sack, and their vaunted D got 2, so not too bad in comparison. Put it in perspective, the ferocious Giants D got only one sack last night too.

Our secondary is missing our main free safety, and we simply have to work through the kinks of the new cover 2 scheme. the point is, things are nearly as bad as tarheelfan and others like him, would have you believe. sit back, smoke a cigar and relax till the regular season

They lost because they are missing Ron Meeks. He was the only reason the colts had so much success. Thats because the colts defense always ran to the football before and now they dont.

So you really mean to tell me that the Colts lost because they are missing Ron Meeks? So why do you vehemently believe the Panthers are going to be bad this year, now that we are the ones that HAVE Meeks on our team?

The Ravens simply attacked us to in the air. They didn't make an effort to run it into our weakness early. Flacco threw for 200 yards in the 1st half. We didn't force them to pass.....that was not what occured like you are implying. If they wanted they could have put in McClain and ran right inbetween the tackles all night. They know they can run and worked on the pass last night.

So now missing Charles "I'm a huge liability" Godfrey is going to be used as an excuse for why the defense will be bad?

I'm not saying anything about having a bad defense, nowhere did I say we will be bad on defense. I'm explaining that TD to Todd Heap was all on Teal we had a free safety in there that wasn't doing much to help our coverage.

All preseason our weakness had been stopping the run which we worked on and improved on, and now we have a free safety starting his first game, and you don't think they would attack through the air?? Do you think that was coincidence? Gamble played horribly, but I think if you watch the game again, you'll see that Teal was responsible for a lot of big plays on us.

Not as many as Gamble or Godfrey has given up prior.

While the "it's only pre-season" saying has some merit to it...It can't totally be denied how inept our first team defense is, as well as the same troubling sites that we have sat through with trgovac...i.e. 10 yards off a receiver on 3rd and 9. I haven't over-reacted due to our pre-season performance, but it is troubling to say the least.

Before you denounce our defense, here's some food for thought:

We are ranked 16th against the pass in the preseason: ahead of stalwarts like Tennessee and New England

We are ranked 26th against the run: It looks bad, but when you consider the Pats are below us, and the Giants are 24th, then you realize, none of this means a damn thing....that is unless you think the Giants will field a horrible running defense this season and the Saints will field the best in the league. However, to put it in greater perspective, take into account the following statistics from last year's preseason

Run defense: Tennessee ranked 26th (they ended up in the top 5 for the regular season. The Ravens ranked 23rd, (They were in the top 3 for the regular season)

Passing Defense: ST. Louis Rams were #1 last year in the preseason. (They finished 19th in the regular season) The Chiefs were fifth last year in passing defense in the preseason...they finished 28th in the regular season.

The point is, there is no correlation between preseason and a team's performance in any area of the game.

    • Film Room Playlist _ NFL Pro — Mozilla Firefox 2024-11-25 10-20-11.mp4 🎯🎯🎯 There were a couple of "fans" yesterday saying that this wasn't a helmet-to-helmet shot... 👀 Looks like based on where Moore was and where the play ended, he'd have gotten maybe just a yard or two more. Chuba was downed at the KC 16 and Moore was on his way back to the QB, so the offense got what they could for the most part. After reviewing the all-22, Bryce made the right call here. Tremble was the hot and KC sent both LBs. He gets it out with a clear pocket but it's quickly collapsing. If there was a little more time it looked like AT came free at the end but whether or not Bryce would've been upright still is another story. Smart move to get the completion and keep the field goal in play to stay alive. George Karlaftis is about to get himself a big ole hug and Bryce heaves it to where David Moore is going. Trent McDuffie slipped just a step or two before this shot, but we can see the clear DPI here as he's wrapped around David Moore before knocking him over as the ball gets there.
    • I’m taking a TE early day 3 Ian Thomas and Tremble are FA.  We should have no desire to bring them back.   There’s more than enough film of ball bouncing off their hands or facemask.
    • Daniel Jones sometimes would sling it for 300 or 400 yards.  That's my stance.  We know what Bryce is.  If you consistently play any QB at this level, they largely are going to end up w/ some good days/games.  last time Mahomes was at BOA, Teddy Bridgwater threw for 300+ yards and a couple TDs and the Matt Rhule Panthers almost took him down.  We know what Bryce is.  Now we got people predictably falling into a predictable trap.
