How is it that we never have enough cap space?

When is the last time the Cowboys and Redskins were even relevant?

Cowboys last season

So were gonna act like the last 3 SB winners didn't have big acquisitions through free agency?

And before people start bringing up Hurney, when he was here did we EVER acquire a big name FA?

The Cowboys were literally just relevant last year. How did you miss the whole dez catch controversy?

So one year since 1998?

Please.

Think of it like this;

You get a credit card and it has a $2,000 limit. You max that card out and transfer the balance no interest to another card with a $3,000 limit. You do the same thing again and transfer the balance to a card with a $5,000 limit. Well, the same thing happens once again and you transfer the balance to a card with a $10,000 limit and eventually you can't even afford the minimum payments.

That's what teams do when they restructure or continue to pursue overpriced talent (this isn't a FA vs. Draft debate, just using this argument for the sake of this analogy). Eventually, you WILL have to pay the piper.

You see, there are people here that genuinely believe cap hell is a myth. These people are what we lovingly refer to as "functionally retarded".

What happens when you get to this point is when you start to see teams purge rosters. The Panthers under Marty Hurney had a maxed out card with a $125,000,000 limit and could no longer afford the minimum payments. That's what happens when you give $50,000,000 contracts to guys like James Anderson and have to keep paying them for four years after they're gone. It's not just the awful contracts (that were often historically bad), it's the restructures that make it so the player haunts you for YEARS after they've left your organization.

We gave Anderson 50 mill? I must of missed that

A team like the Redskins who have overpaid FA constantly seem not to be affected at all, just last season they paid Jackson, 2 years before that Garcon. The Cowboys just gave Romo a huge contract, they are paying Dez 13 mill and still going after Murray. It can't all be on the salary cap, a guy like Jerry Jones seem to fork over more money in a year than Richardson has in his entire tenure

So you considered Wahle and Lucas big free agent acquisitions? good lord the standards for what is considered a big name is on this forum is mind blowing

They were rated the #2 overall and #13 overall free agents available out of the top 32 that year.

That's like a team picking up Greg Hardy and Dez Bryant this year. It was HUGE at the time.

I was being facetious. His was like $20-$25MM but the team was paying him for years after he was gone. Same with many, many Panther contracts of the past 5+ years.

I remember Lucas he was basically Maxwell, no way in hell can you compare him to Dez or Hardy guys who were pro bowl caliber players. Neither Wahle nor Lucas ever made a pro bowl before reaching the panthers. Lucas wasn't even our number 1 corner

And neither of them were given huge contracts

The Redskins haven't been relevant in forever and the Cowboys won a playoff game for the first time in a while last year. They made it to the same round of the playoffs we did.

Those aren't the best two teams to follow for a winning formula.
