Its not going for broke. wait a few days, let the dust settle, and they wont be over priced

the first few days are a bidding war and it rarely worls out well for a team. they overspend and regret it down the line most the time when they have to get under the cap. they have to deal with dead money and all sorts of things

we have a young core we have to resign folks. im glad Gettleman is taking that into serious consideration. we dont wana be in position where we gotta resign our young core and were sitting right at the cap. that would be disaster

a lot of you are completely not thinking far enough ahead to understand. the "here and now" acting like our window is closing soon. its just now opening and its going to open real wide if we continue to minimize the damage that hurney has done. signing high priced guys now will just prevent us from opening the window as wide and itll close sooner

But the more you wait the more likely you'll be picking scraps. Kenny Britt is now most likely off the market. Not many decent #2's are left (in our price range). If we shore up the position we won't feel forced to draft a WR.

not many #2s are left, so we should overpay for one and mortgage our future?

that's what desperate teams do when their window is closing or already closed

We aren't just preparing for this season man

If Britt is signing this soon its because he felt his greatest chance of success, $$$ now, and $$$ in the future was where he was at.

Which would mean we would have had to offer WAY MORE than he was offered by the Rams to tear him away.

What I don't understand is why y'all think this would be a wise way to operate.

You guys remember a few years ago,  when the Bucs were the cheapest team when it came to FA?  They followed our current path......never looking beyond  the scraps of scraps.....  their reasoning was different....but  it doesn't matter how they got there,  they were on the same path..It didn't work out for them.       They eventually splurged........and that didn't work out for them either.

It's okay to splurge every now and then..  Like the Pats,  the Seahawks,  the Packers..     if you just keep trying to think about the future,  you gonna end up outsmarting yourself.......  because with worrying about Luke and Cam's new contracts next season..........  what about the season after that?  What about KK and Star's new contracts?           What about the eventual contracts of our new guards?  What about Bene?  If he continues to develop,  above average corners are not cheap.         Basically,   you'll drive yourself crazy trying to worry about all of it at once.......and expect to field a decent team year in and year out.

The thing is we aren't even looking to get one. We should only sign if it's in our price range.

Big difference in spending money on a coveted all star and getting a quality starter in FA.

Unless you can get a superstar to sign to a flexible contract (See: Revis to the pats last year), it isn't worth the risk as it ties up cash to go to other holes and depth.  It also seriously bites you if the guy gets injured or flat out doesn't fit in your system.

You CAN get quality, starting caliber players to plug into holes on your roster in the 3-6 mil/year range.  I see us nabbing a couple of those guys who are significantly less risky, allow for more flexibility and can just as easily upgrade the talent on your roster (especially when you can sign 2-3 of those guys for one megastar).

Signing Stevie Johnson or Denarius Moore = going for broke?

I've made no such comment on either guy.

I'm talking about folks who goofily insist that we must spend big money and must do it right now or our season is hopeless.

That same crowd was sitting here last year lamenting that we didn't so things like the Bucs did
