Bill Voth dropping knowledge, perspective and some clarity for the cliff jumpers

SCP

The Huddle offers the best overall Panthers coverage, because there are plenty of us who follow the team religiously and know what the fug we're talking about.  Voth is privy to more information, sure, but he is basically surmising and guessing like the rest of us as to free agency and the draft.

Inside information trumps religiously following, and there are only a few on here who can lay claim to that.

Gman does well in the first three rounds but does pretty bad after that.. Kugbilla and Tyler Gaffney anyone? So in other words, we essentially could have traded a player like Gaffney and Kugbilla for Brandon Marshall.. That's a no brainer in my book.

First of all, anything, after the 3rd round, really making any impact, is a fuging blessing.  If you were to do some research, the numbers may overwhelm you.

Gettleman has had 6 picks after the first 3 rounds, since he's been our GM.  Out of the six, three have been significant contributors to us winning games.  Not just significant contributors, but fuging starters.  50% bruh.  That's fuging insane.  I'm willing to bet, that there are very few teams that have had that kind of success, past the 3rd round.  Hell, I'd bet that a lot of them, don't even make the final cuts.

I think I speak for most sane yet disappointed Panther fans, we aren't upset because Gman isn't out there making it rain for guys like Suh or Maclin, it's that he's just too conservative. What about trades? Last big trade we made was for Olsen and that has worked extremely well for us. Why not trade a 5th rounder for a player like Brandon Marshall?

We really just want to see an effort made.. Why not atleast get a feeler for a guy like Harvin and atleast interview him and draw your own conclusion?! Last time I checked, it doesn't count against the cap to bring in guys.

Yes Oher and Ginn is a nice start but we still have holes to fill. I think we are just upset at a general lack of urgency. Ofcourse it would be stupid to sign a guy like Suh or Maclin to the deals they got.. But come on, a 5th rounder for Brandon Marshall?! Why don't we pull off common sense trades like that?

Trades hurt the salary cap. For example: We traded Jon Beason to the NYGiants 3 years ago for a draft pick. At the time, Beason had 3 years left on his 5 year contract. (Don't remember the real numbers, so using easy example) He received a $20 million signing bonus, which was divided by the 5 years to get a cap charge of $4 million per year of his contract.

So in the 3rd year, he's traded. Well, the salary cap problem arrives when a guy is traded. The remaining years with $4 million get bumped up to this year's cap instead of staying on the future year's cap. So the $4 million for this year changed to $12 million because those last 2 years got moved up. So you have $8 million more on your cap than before the trade. And then Beason is sent to his new team and that $12 million stayed on our cap even tho Beason was now on the NYGiants.  And the Giants had to take on his base salary and signing bonuses, too.

Since we have no cap room, that's why we don't do trades right now.  To the best of my knowledge that's how trades work with the salary cap. If anyone knows more details, feel free to educate me.

Inside info? Give me a media credential and let me hang around the stadium/practices all day. That's probably the basis of his job.

people need to go on wikipedia and look up the drafted players for every year.  you can view it by round.

when you get past the third round it's mostly a bunch of guys nobody has ever heard of.  hell look at the 2014 5th round.  bene might have been the best player drafted in that entire round.

So you advocate for a through the draft approach to team building?

Most the Seattle New England Denver stars were drafted there.

All this suggests is that you dont intricately understand how those teams work and leaves me apathetic towards your sentiment as a whole

Whatever. Give most people here an inside tip about who is coming to visit, or what's going to happen in the future, and I guess they'll look like Panther Einsteins, too.  People will praise them on bended knee because they tweet something a bit faster than everyone else.  I'm tired of that attitude.  But I'm even more tired of people taking people's words out of context and trying to make some big thing out of it, when it's really not. And I am going to speak to it this day.

That's basically his job.

I'm not really sure what you're upset about.

I will answer that for him. Of course he does. If anyone would actually read what someone says and actually read with understanding, as opposed to reacting with hyperbole, then they would know this.

I guess I woke up on the wrong side of the bed, but I am tired of all the back and forth about perceived overreactions and taking what people say out of context in order to get a hip hip hooray from the Huddle amen choir.

who can fault them when the opportunity to get a whole pie! is on the line

You missed my point. I said we drafted Kug in a later round so trading a late round pick for Marshall would basically be like us trading a player like Kugbilla for him

We also had late round picks start for us in the playoffs this season.

LOL where are these cliff jumpers? All I see are the same sort of poo posters that always poo post...why does that compel people to validate those trolls by making threads like this?

I was pooping and got bored so I posted Bill's article.
