2012-14 free agency big name signings from 'top teams'

My first words were that I posted it in another thread, pg. 9 of a thread about receivers to be exact, and thought it was interesting enough to be its own thread. My point is noted in the OP, which you don't seem to have read. And did you just actually just compare the NFL to Madden?

Uh yeah dude. Didn't you know madden is so realistic that it's basically a life simulator. Madden even predicted this years super bowl and everyone knows that Pete Carroll used the ask madden option to call his plays.

This doesn't really hold a lot of water because those teams DID suppliment with FA signings to fill a specific NEED, and they COULD, because they have put together a good team for years prior and could spend that money.

Comparing our team to other teams that have competant front offices, owners, and coaches is also a bit of stretch.  Do I have confidence in Belechik to make the most out of his talent?  Totally.  Rivera?  Not even close.  That's when I'd rather bring in a speedy receiver that is more proven to fill a specific NEED.  I'm not talking about signing 5 people for stupid contracts like Hurney did, but a single one to fill a need when it was a crippling need the previous year.

There are two extremes to this arguement and IMO both are wrong.  If you think we shouldn't sign any FA except those at bargain basement level, then you are wrong.  If you think we should sign every FA and throw top dollar to multiple people, you are wrong.

I do agree that the first group, that doesn't want to spend anything, have adopted a mentality that it's OK to be a mediocre team, because that is what this franchise has been since its birth and that seems to be what all our teams in Charlotte ever have been.  We have to break free of this and expect needs to be filled.  Could we draft a WR and fill that speed need? Sure.  Is it guarenteed?  No.  Why take the chance and have another year of no separtion when we could sign AND draft someone?   That being said, we still might fill this need in FA, but if it's 3 weeks from now and no one is left and we haven't addressed it, you can't defend this FO.

You're mocking a topic with the madden spiel that doesn't really merit being mocked with the madden spiel.

In response to a guy referencing 2012 and what the big FA teams were (albeit ignoring 13 and 14), why are you harping on the unrealistic nature of madden?

Should I even bother posting all the players who went and contributed to great teams the past couple seasons that OP magically forgot about or can we all agree that I don't need to

Because man I'm looking and there is a lot and I really just don't wanna type it all

You'd definitely be able to.  I think what some people are mixing up are the teams that go out and spend way too much and try to build through the FA (Bucs, Dolphins, etc.) rather than those who make a few decent signings each year that pay off.

There's still talent available but I can see how the direction we've gone so far at WR and OT is getting to people.  Just gotta let it play out.  I still have a feeling we grab a guy that warrants more than a 2-year fluff contract.

Don't lump me in with them. I don't like big money free agents.

Whose clamorous for big money free agents? I don't see anyone doing so.

I see people critiquing the team for having an outdated philosophy on team building and seeing reasonable market price contracts as "big money."

Have yet to see anybody clamoring for "big money" free agents

I'm not even that disappointed about OT since I get there isn't a lot of options in FA.  Oher is a nice risk sign, it could pan out.

However, we've completely blanked on the WR front and that is a huge need.

Ginn at least should fix a problem.
