Corey "Philly" Brown vs Ted Ginn

Philly can run some pretty crisp routes too.  I can't remember which game, but there was one play where he faked one way, straight up turned the defender around, then broke in the opposite direction on a dime and got like 10 yards of separation.

Philly has some real potential... no way we get rid of him.  I think he could be really good for us if he keeps developing.

Your dead on.

Thing is, we wanted him back too. I don't think we signed him to only return punts or kicks though (not insinuating you said that) . Brown and Ginn could play on the field together on passing downs, but it seems like only one makes sense in 3 wide receiver sets.

Greg Olsen does a good job blocking when it comes to LBs and secondary...not DL. If we have KB, Brown, and Ginn out there.....we'll only have one WR that's a good run blocker.

I would agree with this, however remember Cam has designed runs, with Tolbert and Brockel lead blocking, or just chunk it 50+ yards. There could be some good formations with both on the field. Trips, Hell line them up on the same side with Olsen on the other in blocking formation. You could get real creative, then throw KB in there and you would certainly force secondary zone coverages to exploit.

I think Brown is a lot better at catching the ball which is a major weakness for Ginn. Honestly I could see us using Ginn strictly as a return man and Brown will be our slot guy or atleast ahead of Ginn on the depth chart. I believe Ginn has a lot more speed which we need in the pass game but his drops scare me so I hope we don't depend much on him to catch passes. In fact I hope we stick to screen passes and short passes if we do use him in the pass game.

No, Corey isn't disposable. He's slower than Ginn, but has far better hands and also greater potential. Ginn at #3 and Brown at #4 is actually ideal for us because that way we have two fast guys who are legitimate receiving threats.

Are you sure he is slower than Ginn?  Ginn was a little faster when he came into the league, but now that he is 30 years old, they might be roughly equal in that department.

I agree that Brown has greater potential, at least as a receiver.  IMO, Ginn was signed primarily for the return game anyway, although he will get some time as a receiver.

He's absolutely slower, even now.  Ginn has that rare speed.  He ran a 4.28 with a hurt foot, and I've seen times as low as 4.24.  Even at 30, I'd bet he hasn't lost too much speed, not yet anyway.  Although Brown's official time at the combine was 4.51, I'm positive that his unofficial time of 4.36 is much more accurate for him.  Just watching him on the field, you can tell 4.51 is not accurate.  Most people aren't catching him if he gets behind them.

I also agree that Brown has greater potential as a receiver.  I'll be really excited when we finally get that #2 receiver that we need so badly, and Brown is lined up in the slot for many years to come.  He'll be a killer there, IMO.

I think that ginn is going to help Corey in the end. Philly's better suited to catch passes rather than punts.

He seemed to stay hurt a lot, so I think the off-season training we help him tremendously.

If he stays healthy, I like him better than ginn as a receiver. He was pretty sure handed, when he was in there. Ginn had his plays for us as a receiver, but I recall some big plays he let slip between his fingers.

Although Teddy is not the leagues best blocker, he is better than he is given credit for. I have watched his career since Ohio State, and it truly amazed at how physical he was last year. There were times he had a chance to run out of bounds and turned it up field. He threw plenty of blocks, which as I said, amazed me.

Hellz, there were a few plays where he actually tried to run a tackler over.

I always thought he was a wimp. Last year proved me wrong. The only problem I have with Teddy is those damm alligator arms. He does seem to be adverse to stretching out for the ball. But, other than that, I am surprised how physical he was.
