Corey "Philly" Brown vs Ted Ginn

Imagine sets with Brown and Ginn on the field! Talk about taking the top off! Screens just got real dangerous!

Now if we can only get Pierre Thomas

true, but Tolbert has to get back in shape for that and our o-line needs to continue to progress. this is why I am high on FSU's O'Leary in the later rounds. that's a wrecking crew.

Ricky Proehl rejuvenated Ginn's career. Gin has sucked everywhere but here, also Ted didnt want to leave last year. So in one had cleveland and more money, or the team that saved your career and led to that arizona money.......easy choice.

Im suprised that Ginn signed for only roughly 5 mil in 2 years, Cleveland didnt offer more? I think he realized that money isnt everything, and playing for a team that maxed your potential is better

Your dead on.

Thing is, we wanted him back too.  I don't think we signed him to only return punts or kicks though (not insinuating you said that) .  Brown and Ginn could play on the field together on passing downs, but it seems like only one makes sense in 3 wide receiver sets.

Greg Olsen does a good job blocking when it comes to LBs and secondary...not DL.  If we have KB, Brown, and Ginn out there.....we'll only have one WR that's a good run blocker.

Because he cost nothing.

That's...backwards. You don't throw out cheap talent in favor of comparable but more expensive talent. You don't even save money by cutting a minimum salary guy because another minimum player just takes his place in the top 51.

They're similar players, but the roles will likely be different. Ginn is obviously our much-needed return man, and his speed could help the offense, but Brown has much higher potential as a receiver and may already be the better of the two in that department.

Then again if we're in a 3 receiver set, chances are we aren't calling a run play to need run blocking. Probably going with a screen or the RB will float out and be the underneath check-down after he chips a defender at the line of scrimmage.

Disposable?  He already is disposable. He's on a UDFA deal with no guaranteed money. Should we cut him? God no. Philly is one of our best WRs right now. We let him go through offseason workout, training camp, and make roster cuts in August/September. Ginn could tear a quad in camp and then what? We have 90 roster spots. We don't need to cut someone every time we add someone.

Philly has better hands than Ginn but is less polished as a pro. Less versatile as a returner. Philly has similar attributes with subtle differences. I trust Philly more to work the sidelines but Ginn can burn down them.

Cleveland - shitty city, team hasn't made the playoffs since 2002

Carolina - decent place to live, had a career year on the team already, back to back division champs in a weak division.

Basically come and win in Carolina where you've succeeded for less or go play in Cleveland for more money and suck and hate your life.

IMO Ginn is a proven return man and provides blazing straight line speed.  Ginn plays stiff though, both in route running, adjusting to the ball and his hands.  Even in his good year with us he dropped a good 3-4 wide-open guaranteed touchdowns.  He also loses momentum too easily and a strong knock or grab to him really messes things up for him downfield.

Philly isn't blazing fast nor a great return man.  Philly definitely has better hands, fluid movement and tracks/adjusts to the ball pretty darn well.  I think his TD vs Atlanta was the best indicator of that, when Cam underthrew him and properly spun his body around and boxed the defender to where he was the only guy that was going to get a hand on that ball.  As of now, I look at Philly as an underdeveloped (maybe even poor man's) TY Hilton.  With even a small increase in his game I could see him doing just enough to create some extra space for Olsen and KB.

Lol this a Shula offense.  Running back check down play?  Especially on third and short?  No way.

I seem to remember a December game where Cam checked down to Stewie for a TD. Talked about it in the postgame presser, saying he told Stewie "sometimes his best ability was his availability"

Not to mention Tolbert's TD rolling out left in a playoff game. Funny how Shula is a much better play-caller when he has a healthy Stewie and Tolbert and Norwell and Turner had grabbed starting spots.
