The NFC South has not given Gettleman a reason to go out into free agency.

Who gives a poo about the NFC South? This is what I'm talking about with our fanbase. Our expectations are so laughably low. It's like, we're cool with the bare minimum.

News flash: winning the NFC South isn't the Superbowl. You build a team to win a championship. If your division sucks and you win it, you most likely suck.

We were never going to be signing the big name mega contract players that go on day 1. I'm sure we'll end up with some more signings as free agency rolls on. People do this chicken little poo every single offseason. We need WR and OL. There's really no OL worth paying in free agency and there's fuging tons of WRs to choose from. Patience is a virtue.

to panthers quote.

the cap will rise and we will have retirements by then, like TD and possibly even Olsen and CJ. Kalil is taking up a huge chunk and linemen don't last forever.

there will come a time when Gett goes out and gets all-pros to fill needed positions plus we'll have a few drafts between now and then to develop new All-pros and high level players at key positions.

there will be injuries...its football. Getts is building for depth, not just for instant starters. we may be able to get some trades for our aging core players in favor of draft picks and younger players.

we're on the right track and with the young core we have, it sure makes things less stressful to keep our team competitive. relax

Our cap number for 2016 only includes 27 players under contract and is currently at 78 million. If you count on 15 for Cam and 10 for kuechly if we pick up his 5 year option we add 25 million or roughly 103 out of a total of an estimated 150. If you add 10 for our rookies we signed this year on escalating contracts you might have 6 more players or a total of 34 players signed for 113 million. That leaves you 37 million to sign roughly 17 players which averages to a little more than 2 million per player. Sure 37 million sounds like a lot and would be if we had 51 signed with that but we don't. For example I could see extending Johnson and Davis and right there goes another 15 million. Now we have 36 players signed and only 22 million left. Add another 5 for our draft picks in 2016 and we have 17 million left and still only 42 signed.

Sure the numbers sound huge but honestly I don't think we are going to have a huge amount once all is said and done.

So how do teams like the Jags and Raiders just have 60 plus million in cap space and dont face these issues of having a ton of unsigned players?'

They have been cutting older players with huge contracts the past few years and brought in plenty of rookies to replace them. Not many of the rookies were very good, tho, so they have very bad losing seasons lately. But those rookies are cheap and filled positons. Neither team really has any players worth a big contract like we do with Cam, Luke, Olsen, Kalil, CJ, etc.

Now that they are out from the cap he!!, they are loading up on free agents. They can go crazy like this because they have no quality players on their roster already that need to be paid like we do.

Not reading this thread yet.

But the answer is ... unlike many on this board ... there's more to this game than winning the NFCS. This tem is NOT equppied to hang year after year with Green Bay, Seattle, Philly and Dallas. And save me your "anything can happen in the Playoffs nonsense." I want a contender, not a one hit wonder.

Then you of all people should understand that there is no silver bullet out there in FA that will allow us to dominate these teams. If Greg Hardy wasn't such an incompetent person outside of football, then we would be in much better shape. As it stands, we are at least 6-8 players away from a solid team.

It isn't hard when like the Raiders you have no one on your roster ,making more than 6.5 million, your quarterback is Matt Schaub making 5.5 million and 41 of your players make under a million with most making the vet minimum. But they are going to have to spend in order to reach the salary cap floor which means you overpay for talent or sign your own to big contracts. They have also averaged 3.3 wins over the past 3 years and last made the playoffs and had a winning season in 2002.

GEE, WALLY, THAT'S NEAT!

But if we had an elite WR, we would be AMAZINGLY better than "a bit better than last year". Some of you put way too much stock in Cam. Cam is not and never will be a Brady, Manning, Rodgers, or Brees. Those guys can win with marginal WRs. Cam can't. But guess what? Those other QBs normally don't have marginal WRs. They normally have elite WRs. OR you can whine and moan that Cam has jack crap while Luck lucks out with a loaded roaster.

There is no such thing as a silver bullet for any team but for crying out loud, could you imagine us with a guy like Cobb as our #1, KB as our #2, and Olsen too? Yes, Cobb would've never come here in a million years. But still. You win year after year by fielding the best team.

Some of you have SUCH an inferiority complex. Season after season you say you want to fly under the radar and prove the doubters wrong. WHY are you so stubborn? WHY do you want to win with the average mediocre Panthers? Why not root for a team that is loaded? It makes no sense. It's the same thing ever off-season: we're fine guys, just a few more holes to fill and the NFCS is ours for a decade, we build through the Draft via BPA.

Good god. Aren't you tired of being losers yet? Still no back to back winning seasons. We lucked out in having back to back Playoff seasons. It's not too much to ask at all for the FO to sign an elite player. NOT because there's no proof that an elite player means wins ... BUT BECAUSE AN ELITE PLAYER WOULD MAKE US BETTER.

We want to be better.
