Watching the "it's just March!" Crowd predictably start to sweat come July is one of the most revealing moments of the Huddle year.

Then they will start jumping up and down in October about benching Newton because he cannot throw for 350 yards...

These EXACT same posters did this LAST year and the year before...Complain all season about the offense...then in the off season mock anyone who suggest that maybe the FO could do this or that to upgrade the very unit they just spent the entire season crying about.

Of course by the time the season start they are back to their "Newton should putting up 30 points on the Seahawks...and leading the Panthers in offensive shoot outs."

This is the thing I don't understand about the Huddle.

The same people that are now fine with staying put or making lateral offensive moves will be the SAME posters screaming the loudest when we cannot muster up 17 points on a good or mediocre defense.

The SAME exact posters.

It's fine to like GMan's philosophy but don't cry come September when the Panthers need to win games 10-7.

Exactly, and that's exactly why although my chosen method of discussing these things may seem extreme, I feel it's necessary. We go through the same crap every year. You cannot keep dumpster diving on positions of extreme need and expect a different result. I complained about it last year and laughed when we signed the guys we did. I predicted our offense would be bogged down because receivers couldn't get open and our offense would suffer from just a general lack of speed, while others argued that based on numbers alone, avant and cotch would easily replace Smith and Lafell.

We do it every year, I'm just hoping this off-season will be different so we won't be having this same conversation next off season.

I'm one of the "It's just March Crowd", but about the only thing you'll hear me complain about is Shula and Bersin muffing punts.

You guys are annoying, give the dude a chance man. 4.7 or not dude has great ball skills and is far more explosive than cotchery when catching and getting up field. Young spry legs, coming from a good system deep with WRs i wont mind getting new faces in. He can contribute and it may not be just at Wr. Patience is a virtue, you guys havent got a drop. But i agree i hope gettleman does shop a lil more and find us a legit #2 but i dont think this guys is as terrible as you all think he is. Regardless of last years production or his 40 times

From Voth's latest...

Again, a ‘dollar store’ signing is hardly what fans envisioned when Gettleman said the Panthers “may be able to step up in class a little bit” back in January. But the sense is they’re happy with what they did before free agency kicked off Tuesday, they’re hopeful about the upcoming draft, and they aren’t currently planning to be in the market for even second-tier guys like Cecil Shorts orMichael Crabtree.

Now, that I don't agree with.

This is what pisses me off about gettleman.

Love his drafts, but his FA decisions have left much to be desired. And if you're gonna talk about it, be about it. Don't say we're taking a step up in class and turn right around and target the fuging Equate-tier FA, looking to pay them lunch money.

If you aren't gonna make a substantial move then just stfu.

Now, it went from we had interest in Torrey Smith and would be a player in the receiver market to now we won't even consider second tier FA RECEIVERS LOL!!! Sound strategy. This just in: we only signed Ginn, not jerry fuging rice. And now we're out of the receiver market altogether?

Wait, I mean, we are considering the second coming of Karl Hankton,so yup... Cam should be good.

He sure as hell better hit on a receiver In the draft then. This is fuging ridiculous.

I can agree, but my point is that people shouldn't really care as long as we take a look at someone. It never hurts to interview someone.

I think it's more about showing a lot of interest in the guy on the first day of FA.    A guy that,  chances are,  no other team is going to really show any interest in for another month or two.   Unless he is strictly a ST interest....then he fills no WR need.                Basically,   for the next week or two.....G-man should focus on the players that probably won't be available in a month or two.

There is this thinking within the FO that ALL we need to do is replace or match what we did the season before in the passing game...meanwhile teams like the Colts, who had one of the league's best passing attacks, are trying to acquire Andre Johnson.

Could you imagine if the Panthers passing attack had the talent or numbers of the Colts? Our FO and the Huddle would not want to address the WR core until KB's son is ready to declare for the NFL draft.

Like I said though, as a fan, it is fine to think like that. Just don't create 300 threads in November because the Panthers have gone a month without scoring more than 20 points...

They don't hear you though.

I'm starting to wonder if it's just some built-in masochistic part of our fanbase... That or they just like having a reason to scapegoat Cam every year.

This is the part that confuses me. And obviously FA is far from over and we may bring in a guy for all we know. But, if sounds like we had interest in Torrey...but the 9ers drove his price up past what Gettleman was comfortable paying. Fine, cool, whatever.

But if we do indeed end up just writing off WR all together, then I'll question it. I think we draft a WR early anyway...but for me, I've always figured we'd sign one mid-tier guy, as well as draft at least one. So we shall see.

the elephant in the room in all this, in spite of all the piss and vinegar over dave gettleman, is that ron rivera has proven that he pretty much can't be trusted to play the best 11.

the only reason we made the fuging playoffs in the first place* is because injuries sidelined amini silatolu, nate chandler, and deangelo williams and moves were forced in the secondary.

*e: outside of the division being garbage before i get my head ripped off

I'm not in the 'sky is falling' camp here, but severely disappointed if this is Gettleman's FA WR addition.  I'd be happy with Boykin, but don't see him as any better than how I felt when we added Avant or Underwood.  I know it's only day one, but I really hope this squad intends on seeing what some of the other WRs out there want for a contract.  Boykin for depth, but I am afraid that he and Ginn's arrival, means that we look for Cam's #2 in the draft.
