Got a chromecast and have problems

What kind of content are you trying to stream? Roku or Apple TV will work with almost every major streaming app (Netflix, Hulu, Watch ESPN, etc). But as mentioned above, if you don't have WiFi capabilities, you may be out of options.

I'm assuming he's trying to stream content that he has created or downloaded online (torrents, etc) from his PC to his TV via a streaming device. He says he has a wifi router but his network doesn't meet the requirements for chromecast (idk the requirements, never used chromecast).

I recommended roku with the Plex channel because of its ability to stream media files.

You wouldn't stream anything to the chromecast period without a wireless device I don't believe.  It doesn't have a lan jack on it does it?

No the chromecast just plugs into the tv with an hdmi plug and is fed its information via the wifi router.

Just get a Roku. There are a thousand free channels for Roku, it's easy to setup, and if you know anybody with HBO, you can borrow their password for HBOGo.

I tried one years ago. I couldn't get it to work.

 

I don't understand why you would need specifically need a PC with wi-fi if it is on the same network. I mean, I understand you would have to set up the wireless information, but as long as the PC is connected to the modem/router/access point (hardwired or wi-fi) you still have access to the wireless settings.

Then again, I don't have chromecast so I really can't be of much use.

Chromecast basically transmits whatever you are doing on your laptop/tablet.

Just in case anyone is interested- last night one of the wifes gf s came by with her 21st century smart phone and helped me set up the chromecast.  It was pretty easy and now I can cast anything on my desktop computer to the television.  For $ 30 its a great deal imo.

I've got three in my house for the bedrooms and living room. Its great

Apparently to do the intial set up with the chromecast you need to do it with a smartphone or tablet or wireless laptop. None of which I have. I have a wi fi router installed - hardwired to my desktop pc. The pc has no wireless capability as far as I know. Is there a way to make my pc wireless capable ?
