NFL Free Agency Update Thread

The Buccaneers officially released DE Michael Johnson on Wednesday just one year after signing him to a five-year, $43.875 million deal with $23 million guaranteed.

Johnson becomes one of the best available pass-rushers in free agency following his release and there are already reports of who could be interested in him.

Bengals are hoping to bring back Johnson and they could really use defensive line help.

However, it looks like they have competition from the Vikings as  the Minnesota could emerge as a possible landing spot for Johnson.

it’s early in the process and he could take a few days before anything becomes clear. Although, it sounds like he’ll consider the Vikings.

“He almost went (to Minnesota) last year.’’

Bengals will be in the mix for Johnson as well.

Johnson, 27, recorded 27 tackles, four sacks and two forced fumbles over the course of 14 games for the Buccaneers. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 53 defensive end in a 4-3 system out of 59 qualifying players

Jeremy Maclin five-year Chiefs deal $55M, $12M bonus, $22M gtd; salaries $750K, $9.75M, $9.75M, $10.75M, $10.75M; 2015-16 full gtd.

Figured it'd have to be backloaded in order for them to pull it off this year. 2015 cap hit is only $3.4m but goes way up from there.

Since he's signed, that means the Chiefs cut Dwayne Bowe

Looks like the Iggles are getting Ryan Matthews. What a flip job they've done.

QB: Sam Bradford

RB: Ryan Matthews / Sproles

WR: Jordan Matthews / Huff

That has to be the most confused fanbase in the league right now.

I cant even imagine some of the posters on here reacting to this as if we did it

The #Bucs are releasing DE Mike Johnson, another big-ticket FA signing from last year. Wow. Owed $7M still

The #Bucs will release DE Michael Johnson by 4 pm today.

reported that the Bengals are hoping to bring back Johnson if he were to be released by the Buccaneers.

The Buccaneers signed him to a five-year, $43.875 million deal with $23 million guaranteed last March.

According to OverTheCap.com, releasing Johnson outright will free up $2 million in cap space, while also creating $7 million in dead money. Waiting to June 1 to release him would have given them $4 million in cap room to go along with $4 million in dead money.

Johnson, 27, recorded 27 tackles, four sacks and two forced fumbles over the course of 14 games for the Buccaneers. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 53 defensive end in a 4-3 system out of 59 qualifying players.

Good lord, and some of you want to spend like the bucs! If you spend big bucks in FA you are clearly despirate.

Who goes on a spending spree like that and goes 2-14. Proves spending big in FA isnt the answer. This is what not looking ahead and planning for the future does to you folks!
