 One million a year more than I said for a WR of Smith's caliber is not a big stretch and of course 10 is too much but 9 million a year on maybe less guaranteed money overall. You are nitpicking about what would have been a great signing for this franchise opposite of Benjamin.

Nit picking my ass, no player in their right mind is playing on a low guarantee contract.  Not unless they're lower tier players.  You'll never see that... ever.  Smith, Cobb, Maclin, etc., just look at their guaranteed money.  They'd spit in your face if you offered some stupid contract like that.  Ain't happening.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers will host Cowboys free agent LB Bruce Carter for a visit.

 

Carter will also meet with the Texans.

 

Carter, 27, appeared in 13 games and recorded 68 tackles, five interceptions, a defensive touchdown and eight pass defenses for the Cowboys. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 34 linebacker in a 4-3 defense out of 40 qualifying players.

Relying on drafting a WR to fill a number two spot is a shaky proposal and free agency at WR is over pretty much. Cam will be stuck waiting for receivers to get open after 5 seconds again next season. I smell coverage sacks for everyone.

The only thing that really matters in an NFL contract is the guaranteed money.  Agents know that.  Informed players know that.  Informed fans know that.

 

If they offered $20M guaranteed and we were only willing to do say $12M guaranteed, he's signing with them, even if the overall "value" of the contracts were the same.

Of course but let us say that they have a choice to go to a team that is offering a little less guaranteed but has a good enough core with your addition to win at a super bowl level. It happens a lot in sports. Spitting in my face is a bad idea. I will say that all this talk of spit is making me thirsty.
