NFL Free Agency Update Thread

Now don't crucify me about what I am about to bring up. Do you guys think if Hardy didn't get much action that if we had an opportunity to get him for less than the rest would we try to pick him up or leave him to not play? Just a thought since it can be possible.

He'll be picked up, but not by the Panthers.

Bersin was never our #2 WR.  Harvin is a locker room disaster.  It'll take locker room leaders like Brady and Belichick to even have a chance of keeping that guy in check.  I love Cam and (to a lesser extent) Rivera, but they don't have the type of clout around the league that Brady and Belichick have.  Not even close.  There's a reason why despite all his talent Harvin can't stick anywhere.

True but I still think Rivera commands respect in a locker room. I have never been a huge Rivera fan but that is one thing I think he does better than most coaches. Then who is our number two? Cotchery? Everyone and their mamma is saying we need a speed receiver and I think if they wait those players will be gone. Speed Receivers are a commodity in the NFL. Imagine how many yards Benjamin would have gotten with a legitimate number two receiver opposite of him last season.

Their franchise QB is 37. Our franchise QB is 25. They know they're likely to go through a bit of a rebuilding period soon, so they're probably a little more willing to take chances. We're trying to build a perennial contender for the next decade. In other words, we're trying to become what the Pats have been under Brady/Belichick while the Pats are trying to hang onto it for another season or two.

So how many seasons are you content with losing before we are finally ready to "make a run."

Couple more years and our franchise QB will be reaching the midpoint of his career. Exactly how many seasons are we willing to sacrifice for that 5-6 year window? 5 years? 6 years? Because maybe I'm dim but I don't see the point of sacrificing five years now to get a possible five years down the road, maybe, hopefully, if it all works out. No, I think I'd just rather concentrate on winning this year instead.

So now you're flexible?  5-7 range, but 8, 9, and 10 are okay to...

One million a year more than I said for a WR of Smith's caliber is not a big stretch and of course 10 is too much but 9 million a year on maybe less guaranteed money overall. You are nitpicking about what would have been a great signing for this franchise opposite of Benjamin.

The team that made the playoffs in back-to-back years for the first time in it's history is "content with losing"?

Back to back playoff berths for the first time in franchise history and you act like we're gutting the joint like the Saints are doing.
