It's amusing how people scream MIKE WALLACE!!! every time they need to rationalize why other teams refuse to play by the Huddle's FA rules. I know the amount of support for that argument isn't very big but at least diversify your stance.

Denver, Seattle, Philly, Indy, New England, San Francisco. All major FA teams. What's the rationale we cling to in the face of that?

 

 

 

Tell me exactly who, over the last 2 years would you have wanted.  Fit them into the cap hell that we had here in Carolina, and also try to figure out how to sign a franchise QB and the best MLB in the game to extensions, with those cap hits on the board.

 

 

While you are at it, make sure that you also count on losing Josh Norman, Star or KK, and Big Money, in addition to Kalil being a cap casualty at the same time.

 

You are looking at next year, not 5 down the road.  We are building a contender here, but it won't happen over night, and it certainly won't happen by adding overpriced free agents.

The same exact people that are coming to Gman's defense are the same people that came to Hurney's defense when he went full retard in 2011 and made it rain signing our "core" and "homegrown" players that we "built through the draft" so I do think skepticism is warranted

Gettleman has only been building a contender for just over 2 years. You can't hold him responsible for the previous regimes mistakes. He is fixing those mistakes in a very deliberate and patient way, yet he has 2 nfc South championships in his only 2 years. What's to complain about. He is more than on schedule and he is going to build us a sustainable success like the Colts and Pats and Packers have built. I am excited for the future of this long suffering franchise and fan base. By the way I was not a hurney supporter and didn't agree with those moves. I wanted him gone for years before he was finally sent packing. But yes, I fully support DG.

I don't.  You are counting the Hurney years as building a contender? I agree that he sucked, but I am not one who supported the ridiculous contracts he gave out then.  He was stupidly trying to save his arse. It really doesn't matter what people thought then--you are using hindsight and they only had hope.  We are in year 3 of a legit building process that started the day Dave Gettlemen stepped off the plane.  We are 4-5 players away from being elite, and that number will be down to 3 by the draft, IMO.  2 trips to the playoffs, 2 division titles.  This year, we give Cam protection and weapons.  We get the special teams right.  We add a player or two to the defense.  The best part about it?  How many contracts do we have that could cripple the franchise?  We are in healthy shape to build a winner for years to come. 

 

Name a team that has built a winner through free agency?  George Allen's Redskins come to mind.  Gettlemen fills the gaps, gives us depth and competition.
