So you want to make a splash in free agency...

Read it. Good article and I agree. Look who remains competitive each and every year. The Packers and Pats. They certainly are not big movers and shakers in free agency each year. Championship teams are built through the draft. Free agency should just be used for stop gaps and to fill in a missing piece hear and there.

I'm done with the big signings, thanks to these two hacks

Our mantra has always been, and will always be "build through the draft"

That's how you stay young as a football team and it's really cheap. If JR spent big time cash, he'd have to downgrade to unsweetened tea every Sunday. And we all know that Bojangles sweet tea is teh amazingness

We like going for players that no other teams have a real interest in.    That way,  there is no risk of a bidding war.      It would not surprise me that this is the strategy we stick with,  even when we've $40M+ of cap space to play with in upcoming offseasons.

It's honestly kind of amusing how many people believe that the leagues best teams aren't active participants in free agency each year

It's a hilariously widespread myth on this board

Every team participates in Free Agency.

The best teams sign their own.

Its the only thing I can do to keep from crying.  I tell myself FA's just aren't important.  I know they are but after 20 years of the same song and dance what more can I do to keep a strangle hold on my last waning thread of sanity?

This would be a nice sentiment if it didn't mean that the Panthers were signing players like Ed Dickson while the league's best teams are perpetually springing in outside talent,

How about Charles Johnson?

The "best" teams usually have the "best" QB's.  They draft really well, and don't overpay running backs and Guards.  How awesome is it to be the "king of the offseason" and get the likes of Mike Wallace and Suh?

We have holes, but really only at S, LT, and WR.  I didn't like any of the choices, or the salaries of these FA's this year.

It's amusing how people scream MIKE WALLACE!!! every time they need to rationalize why other teams refuse to play by the Huddle's FA rules. I know the amount of support for that argument isn't very big but at least diversify your stance.

Denver, Seattle, Philly, Indy, New England, San Francisco. All major FA teams. What's the rationale we cling to in the face of that?
