Our wide receiver corp

While it's not good it's not hot trash. Take a look at some other teams. Start with Seattle. Their second and third receivers aren't WR either. Their second WR had 271 yards.

We just don't throw that much. Arguably because of the receiving options but for other reasons as well.

And Seattle list their biggest need as WR..

That should be a indication they don't think their WR position is good..

This:

Total Defense (YPG) Complete List SEA_logo-80x90.gif 1. Seattle Seahawks 267.1 2. Detroit Lions 300.9 3. Denver Broncos 305.2 4. Buffalo Bills 312.2 5. San Francisco 49ers 321.

and this:

Rushing (YPG) Complete List SEA_logo-80x90.gif 1. Seattle Seahawks 172.6 2. Dallas Cowboys 147.1 3. New York Jets 142.5 4. San Francisco 49ers 136.0 5. Houston Texans 135.1

They had by far the #1 overall defense and #1 rushing attack in the NFL last year.

They had the #27 passing attack.

yes, shocked! Does this mean by  a good rushing attack and Defense? so what's our problem?

It isn't. They are a very good team that would prefer to have our receivers.

Brown's ideal career path is to develop into an Az Hakim type number three.

Ginn?  I'd say he's primarily one of those "specialists" Rivera and Gettleman were talking about in their pressers.  Though he has legitimately shown the ability to be a weapon in our offense from time to time.

Number two?  Still don't have one at this point (Cotchery isn't good enough) but there are plenty of opportunities to get one between now and September.

I'm good with where we are at this point.

I like that Hakim comparison.

I think we could draft a WR in any of the first 4 rounds and I'll be fine.

We've got Philly and Cotchery that can fill #3 roles, Ginn is fringe 3rd/4th and Bersin is a 4th.

If we draft a guy it slides Bersin off the active hopefully and we're probably set for 2015.  I just don't see us adding another vet outside of Cotchery and Ginn now.  Stay focused on finding some youth at the position.

Their D and rushing attack wasn't good, it was GREAT.  Best in the league in both categories and 2nd place wasn't even close.

Yes, agreed. I asked  on purpose to get this answer. The time honored recipe for success and it hasn't changed.

Granted, Brown needs to get a lot better fielding punts to truly be a Hakim type.

That was just pure speculation on their part.  No real indication that we'd be interested.

In fact, I don't think Gettleman and Rivera will want Harvin anywhere near KB and to a lesser extent, Corey Brown.  The guy is a locker room nightmare and we have some young WRs we're trying to groom.  We cut Smitty in large part due to his locker room impact.  Harvin is nowhere near what Smitty was on the field and he's even worse in the locker room.  I'd be SHOCKED if we showed even a sliver of interest in Harvin.

Just bringing in a rookie WR may not be good enough to get us any deeper into the playoffs. Even Benjamin needs to get much better at the nuances of being a pro, particularly the art of route running. A vet that actually knows what he is doing will help everyone (had a Cecil Shorts flash for some reason).

and it won't.  You'll see RB stock start rising back up over the next few years.  Teams will see the success of the ground and pound, and how they're getting hammered come playoff time.  Pass heavy won't work well long term, even with the rules making it harder on defenses.... unless they devastate it even more.

The Patriots only averaged 82.7 rushing yards per game last postseason.  That was good for 10th out of the 12 playoff teams.  We were first with 160 yards per game.  The Pats only ran for 57 yards in the Super Bowl compared to the Seahawks' 162.  Tom Brady threw the ball 50 times compared to only 21 rushing attempts.

There is no one set formula to fielding a Super Bowl winning team.

but there is a consistent one.literally the hawks lost because they passed instead of running the ball.
