Our wide receiver corp

Don't sugarcoat it, bro.  Outside of KB, our WR corps was pure hot garbage.

KB:  73 catches, 1008 yards, 9 TDs (Yay!!!)

Cotchery:  48 catches, 580 yards, 1 TD

Brown:  21 catches, 296 yards, 2 TDs

Avant:  21 catches, 201 yards, 1 TD

Bersin:  13 catches, 151 yards, 1 TD

That's hot trash.  The rest of our WR corps combined barely eclipsed KB's yardage production by himself and couldn't match his TD total.  We're talking about a rookie WR here.  The guy needs some help.

While I agree that I would like us to add a dynamic receiver I think Olsen's production skews our view of our receivers somewhat.  If we had a "true #2 receiver" catching 1000 yards a year I would guess Olsen's production would be less.

I'm not sure if there is a team in the league that has 3 players with 1000 yards receiving.

KB looks like a legit 1 in the making, though you definitely want to pair him with a speedier guy on the other side.

I'm higher on Cotchery than most, but ideally he's no more than a 3rd receiver for you. Scary we signed him to be our number 1 last year, but thankfully Benji came through for us. At his peak Cotch was a solid 2, but this is 2015.

Conversely, I'm a little lower on Philly than most. Loved his contributions last year but I'm unsure he'll truly develop into the speedy 2 we need. Seems best as a 3rd/slot guy.

Thank God for Ginn. Even if his WR role is a bit redundant with that other speedy Buckeye I just mentioned, we desperately needed him for returns.

I like Bersin, but please never return a punt ever again. Good size, great hands, no speed. He's limited, but he moves the chains. Could do a lot worse for your 4th/5th guy.

Everyone else (Hill, Presley, Lucas, Mike Brown) strikes me as camp bodies, though they could always surprise. The Hill Chronicles are always fun, but you can't deny the measurables.

Basically I'm saying we really need a 2. My heart wanted Torrey Smith but my head knew that wouldn't happen. Best bet is someone like Strong in the draft, but I kinda doubt he'll be available.

Brown's ideal career path is to develop into an Az Hakim type number three.

Ginn?  I'd say he's primarily one of those "specialists" Rivera and Gettleman were talking about in their pressers.  Though he has legitimately shown the ability to be a weapon in our offense from time to time.

Number two?  Still don't have one at this point (Cotchery isn't good enough) but there are plenty of opportunities to get one between now and September.

I'm good with where we are at this point.

A guy like Crab or Nicks is something we should consider. Definitely want us to use a pick in the first 3 rounds on wideout.

I agree.  Both would be relatively affordable, and would serve us well in the WR2 spot.

Benjamin

Crabtree/Nicks

Philly

Ginn

Cotch

I could live with that.

We are one player away from a solid all around receiving corp and we have yet to start FA or have the draft. I fail to see the reason for pessimism.

Some folks won't be happy unless we throw fifty jillion dollars at somebody they've seen on Sportscenter.

In this league the team has to surround qbs that have accuracy and O-line issues with more talent than just one or 2 competitive options! Cam is far from the best qb when it comes to accuracy and he only had a rookie WR that struggled with drops and rookie mistakes + Greg Olsen who was spot on but they tended to shy away from him at times. Getting another #1 or #2 type receiver in free agency or in the draft could help tremendously in cams career progression and take away double teams from our other stars catching the ball...

Ginn and Philly Brown just gives us two HR options. More speed, and the ability again to take short quick passes and turn them into TDs. Something we lacked this past season.

Our WR core isn't the best, but it is better today than yesterday and GMan knows what he is doing.

if they are trash how can they be so good (seattle)?

This:

Total Defense (YPG) Complete List SEA_logo-80x90.gif 1. Seattle Seahawks 267.1 2. Detroit Lions 300.9 3. Denver Broncos 305.2 4. Buffalo Bills 312.2 5. San Francisco 49ers 321.

and this:

Rushing (YPG) Complete List SEA_logo-80x90.gif 1. Seattle Seahawks 172.6 2. Dallas Cowboys 147.1 3. New York Jets 142.5 4. San Francisco 49ers 136.0 5. Houston Texans 135.1

They had by far the #1 overall defense and #1 rushing attack in the NFL last year.

They had the #27 passing attack.
