Our wide receiver corp

The question I have is do we really need to make any splashes for this position?  In my opinion we have a solid group presently.  The trait that was obviously missing last year was speed.  This has been addressed with the addition of Ted.

Bersin: was solid for us minus the KR/PR.  That issue is no longer an issue.

KB: going into his second year.  He was not happy with his performance and the drops I expect him to be greatly improved next season.

Cotch:  There is quite a bit of hate but this guy is a solid 3rd down receiver.

Olson:  Nothing needs to be said

The practice squad guys such as Stephen Hill, Mike Brown might be something the Panthers look at but I do not see a glaring need at this point to go out and drop 6-8 million dollars on a wide receiver when it could and should be spent on the o-line.

WR group is still trash. I'd like for us to look at other WR's in free agency, and still go after one in the draft. Still need a #1 or 2 WR...depending on how you view KB. This draft coming up is a good one to use to obtain that 1 or 2.

I consider Bersin, Cotchery, Hill, etc to be scrubs. Need to use FA/draft to push out the scrubs.

so ted ginn makes our receivers go from trash to solid?

I did not see it as trash last season.  I saw it as mediocre.  We lacked speed and that is all we lacked.  That has been addressed.  The problem last year was protection and that is a fact.

Honestly, Bersin is JAG.  He wouldn't make many if any other NFL roster.

KB is a stud.

Olsen is a stud, but he's a TE, not a WR.

Cotchery is a stop gap who absolutely should not be any higher than #4 on the depth chart.

Brown is a 4/5 WR type guy on a decent NFL roster.

Ginn is a 3/4 WR/PR type guy on a decent NFL roster.  I only say this because of the success he's already had here.  Based on the rest of his NFL career, he's a pure PR/KR.

In other words, yes, we have a HUGE need for a starting WR.

Coverage sacks constituted to our bad oline play as well. Sometimes Cam had great protection and no one could even think of getting open.

protection was indeed a problem, but our receivers dropped passes and struggled to get open all year.

Don't sugarcoat it, bro.  Outside of KB, our WR corps was pure hot garbage.

KB:  73 catches, 1008 yards, 9 TDs (Yay!!!)

Cotchery:  48 catches, 580 yards, 1 TD

Brown:  21 catches, 296 yards, 2 TDs

Avant:  21 catches, 201 yards, 1 TD

Bersin:  13 catches, 151 yards, 1 TD

That's hot trash.  The rest of our WR corps combined barely eclipsed KB's yardage production by himself and couldn't match his TD total.  We're talking about a rookie WR here.  The guy needs some help.
