Some stats and numbers that show Gettleman is wrong for not pursuing a top flight WR.

Reason those teams failed is that they overspent on those players. So you want us to overspend for the same said players that may cause problems not only signing cam, luke, and other guys long term already on the roster but also make it that we will have holes at other positions THIS year as well? Fill a wr hole with a deep contract then you have a hole at oline or safety, then we give up points in the backend and maybe cam doesn't have time to find that wr, then we are losing just like those teams did last year.

Ok, maybe im just bad at math but how does a 40 plus mill contract at 7 or 8 mill a year break the bank and make us nit able to sign Cam or Keek?' Keep in mind, i am NOT advocating paying 80-100 mill for one player, the Phins went full retard. Paying that money for Suh.

All Im saying is a 7-8 million a year for a WR like Torrey Smith isnt something thats going to set your franchise back, its a very reasonable price

Right, you kind of proved my point that we handed out big contracts to who?' Our own guys that we drafted and look where thst got us. My point is, we are living proof that "re signing your own homegrown guys" isnt sure to work out either

Yeah surprise when your GM drafts like poo and you only have 5 players on your roster form the last 4 drafts combined, you're bound to suck.

It's not coincidence that when we had two good drafts we had two playoff seasons

and i don't think you understand, these players followed the $$$. the ones that went to teams with good QBs wen a resonale price for one reason they wanted to win.

why do you think the big name WRs went to the teams that don't have a lot of cap tied into good players? go ahead i'll let you figure it out.

So you want players to come here that are chasing money? And no Kenny Britt went to the Rams to re establish his career. Cecil Shorts would come here at a song to get out of Jacksonville... Explain why Sanders 'a big money' guy signed with manning was that running to the $$$?

i mean is it really that hard to believe that our piss-ass $13-17 million or whatever the estimate is in cap room  is hindering our ability to bring in A-list free agent skill position players?  especially when we've got two likely record breaking contract extensions coming down the pipe?  the thing that gets me is nippleshorts told you idiots that this is what was going to happen yet you've still got a shitty diaper over it.

if we have $40-60 million in cap room in 2016 we can extend cam and luke and still make a few splash moves.

So during this free agency period, all I have heard from my fellow. Panther fans is "im glad Dave is sticking to his bargain shopping mentality." Or "We dont need to overpay for a top flight WR free agent." Or "Build through the draft and sign cheap free agents to one year deals!" Or how FAs end up not living to the expectations and end up being a bust. So I went and did research on some of the top FA WRs signed over the last couple years and then listed a few of the "bargain bin" WRs signed in the same period.

What I concluded is like everything in life, you get what you pay for. Most if not ALL the top flight FA WRs signed to big money contracts over the last couple years actually DID end up living up to the hype and put up some real impressive numbers, so my question is, why is this organization still so stingy in not paying the doe and bringing a REAL WR that could be our number 2 for years to come.

The two players on this list that caught my eye are Vincent Jackson and Desean Jackson, the reason being is because Panther fans kept saying how these players are "divas that would just cost too much." Well stats dont lie, both ended up putting up very solid numbers, on pretty bad teams might I add.

Vincent Jackson- Bucs

2012- 1384 Rec yds, 8 TDs

2013- 1224 rec yds, 7 TDs

2014- 1002 yds, 2 TDs (keep in mind, his drop off is due to new offensive scheme on top of a mess of a QB situation and a team that went 2-14)

Desean Jackson- Redskins

2014- 1,169 Rec yds, 6 TDs

Steve Smith Sr- Ravens

2014- 1065 rec yds, 6 TDs

Mike Wallace- Miami Dolphins

2013- 930 rec yds, 5 TDs

2014- 860 rec yds, 10 10 TDs

Golden Tate- Detroit Lions

2014- 1331 rec yds, 5 TDs

Eric Decker- NYJ

2014- 962 rec yds, 5 TDs

Brandon Marshall- Chicago Bears

2012- 1508 rec yds, 11 TDs

2013- 1295 rec yds, 12 TDs

2014- 721 rec yds, 8 TDs

Emmanuel Sanders- Denver Broncos

2014- 1404 rec yds, 9 TDs

Now a list of some of the "bargain bin" or "value play" type WRs signed on the cheap the last couple years.

Jason Avant- Carolina Panthers

2014- 353 rec yds, 1 TD

Jerricho Cotchery- Carolina Panthers

2014- 580 rec yds, 1 TD

Santana Moss- Redskins

116 rec yds, 0 TDs

Nate Burleson- Cleveland Browns

2014- 461 rec yds, 1 TD

Tiquan Underwood- Carolina Panthers

2014-440 rec yds, 4 TDs

I really appreciate the effort you took to research this and the fact that you shared it with us.  However, the thing that we all have to consider is the salary cap.  For every successful WR free agent big contract you can produce, I can produce 2 or 3 that underperformed.   You make a good argument, however, and a solid case.  I just think we focus on one thing and forget the other needs, cap room, draft, etc-all factors that go into the process.  I really don't think DG intended to fix everything in one or two seasons.  I think this year is when it comes together.

I don't know about your math skills.

You are very bad at knowing football.

We actually surrounded him with a 6 ft 5 monster that we used a 1st round pick on, and extended the always reliable Olsen. Now go get some bargain speed and route running, and I'm all for it.

Ok, and signs point to us drafting D line or O line. Who is left in FA that fits that mold? Maclin is gone, Torrey is gone, Cobbis gone, who else?

I'd rather pay Suh $114 mil then Cobb for $40 mil... Just saying. Suh is the second best dlinemen in the league behind Watt... He will anchor an entire defense, Cobb's what 14th overall at WR, and played second fiddle to Jordy Nelson while catching balls from Aaron Rogers? You really think the production would be there in our offense?

does OP think marty hurney still runs this team?

it would explain a lot

Or maybe he thinks Marty Hurney did a good job running the team.

That might explain why he thinks we'd be better off if we just did things the way the Redskins do
