Report: Jeremy Maclin Plans To Sign With The Chiefs

ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reports that free agent WR Jeremy Maclin plans to reunite with Andy Reid in Kansas City once free agent market opens Tuesday.

 

Mortensen adds that the Chiefs will need to clear cap space, which can be done by releasing WR Dwayne Bowe.

 

Charles Robinson confirms that the Chiefs are close to locking Maclin up, but adds that it’s not a done deal.

Numerous reports in recent days have said that Maclin was likely to return to the Eagles, as they were reportedly pushing to get him under contract.

However, it appears as though the Chiefs made him an offer he can’t refuse.

 

Maclin, 26, missed the entire 2013 season after he suffered a torn ACL. The Eagles later signed him to a one-year contract worth $5.5 million, even though they were reportedly interested in giving him a multi-year agreement.

 

In 2014, he caught 85 passes for 1,318 yards receiving and 10 touchdowns over the course of 16 games.Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 14 receiver out of 110

We weren't in the running for Maclin anyways. The way I look at it... The Chiefs just got a stud WR and will be less likely to take one in the first round ahead of us. The chances of us having Jaelen Strong available at 25 just went up a considerable amount. They could still select one for all I know, but this signing helps our chances.

Maclin anyways. The way I look at it... The Chiefs just got a stud WR and will be less likely to take one in the first round ahead of us. The chances of us having Jaelen Strong available at 25 just went up a considerable amount. They could still select one for all I know, but this signing helps our chances.

 

The chances are still there. There's a reason the WRs didn't have a single reciving touchdown last season Their WR core sucks.

 

There'll be nothing behind Maclin in KC.

I suppose if the Eagles don't trade up for Mariota they are now in the market for a receiver. Jordan Matthews had a good rookie year but they don't have a whole lot else at the position now.

Same with the Niners getting Torrey. Even though I've been screaming WR since the beginning of time, Cobb, Smith and Maclin all didn't interest me, especially with the contracts they're getting.
