Before you make fun of the fans that get mad, remember it was Gman who made his comments.

I do dream of us somehow signing Maclin though.

It would be awesome to make a splash signing like that and see our fan base absolutely lose their collective poo. It's been a long time since there was a big-name signing... I want to be prudent above all else so it doesn't bite us in the ass years down the road, but the way I view it is, if the guy is young, proven, and productive, he's worth signing... Just like with CJ, he was overpaid a bit, but he has remained productive and you can always restructure if need be.

About "stepping up in class " and not "having to shop at the dollar tree." because this year "we are better off financially." I see a lot of people make fun of the fans that get mad at Gman for not signing notable FAs. You can't get mad at the 6 year old kid when it was his own daddy that said "now son, last Christmas times were tough, but because daddy is in better financial shape this Christmas, we can now step up in class in terms of Christmas gifts." You can't blame the 6 year old when he is disappointed on Christmas morning when he gets a Xbox 360 when it was Daddy who led him to believe that this year will be the Xbox one.

Yes previous years when Gman would come out and flat out say we are cap challenged and won't be making any moves then the people that expected big moves deserved to be disappointed. This year is different, Gman is the one that gave fans hope with his own words. Just saying

Since apparently you either don't own a calendar or don't understand how to read one, let me explain something.

Today is March the 8th.

That means we're still two days away from the free agency signing period, just under two months from the college draft and, as the team Twitter points out, twenty-seven weeks - i.e. just over half of one full year -  from opening day.

Basically, that's a long time.

And that means that the people who are whining, complaining and panicking now while this still this much time left before the season starts are making themselves look really, really stupid.

So if you don't wanna be made fun of, I strongly suggest you either buy a calendar, gain some concept of time or, crazy thought, try to actually gain a little patience.

While you're at it, read this (link) and this (link) to try and learn a little perspective.

Sheesh

I like how we made Ted Ginn's ass famous.  He was like the bottom of the barrel WR signing when we got him, spends one year here on peanuts, then go gets paid in Arizona... then cut.

Now he's likely back here again, only probably more expensive this time.

Harsh but effective.

Ha! That first link just sums up what the short-termists on this board just don't understand.

Good clubs do not spend big in free agency.

Winning teams have proven adept at doing just that: out-drafting and out-developing the competition.

Conversely, they generally aren't winning much on days like this Tuesday, when the 2014 free agency period begins. And so, as we all ring the bell in anticipation for the grand opening of the market, the most instructive practice might be to watch the movements of the clubs avoiding the early action.

Carrying over cash to next year and using it to help keep some of our 2011-12 rookies is what will help us win, not reaching for every big name that is looking for his next big contract.
