Derrick Morgan hints at meeting with the Panthers

6 to 8 sacks at 1/4 (maybe even less) of the price and without any of the mental headaches?

Sign me up.

And what mental headaches are you talking about? In his first 4 yrs he didn't cause any problems. And his teammates like him so you can't even say it's a locker room thing

the headaches caused by a $13M player going on exempt list for 14 games

Are you really comparing Derrick Morgan to Greg Hardy?

Yes. Hardy is not as great as people here have made him out to be.  Do you really think one season (take a look back at the OTs he faced in 2013--the scrubs and weak OTs he faced to get sacks in bunches--they were jokes) makes him an elite DE?  In addition, a look back at his sacks will reveal that he was only the first to pressure the qb in less than half of the sacks.  In contrast, Morgan was in Tennessee, where they switched to a 3-4 and moved him to OLB.  The increase in sacks during his first 3 seasons is VERY comparable to Hardy.  Who was playing opposite Hardy (LDE)?  Johnson.  Without Johnson on the other side, Hardy is average.  Who was beside him (DT) Star, KK, Edwards?  Who were the linebackers?  Hardy was never the focus of the offenses  Compare that to Tennessee and you will see that Morgan was the focus of the offense most of the time, not so in Hardy's case.  There are a lot of variables that make the 2 comparable.

Not calling Morgan great, but I am calling Hardy not great (above average, but not great).

Put Morgan in Hardy's situation--with CJ across from him, Star beside him, and Luke behind him, and Morgan will be much better than you think.

I recall a motorcycle accident that sidelined him for a while.

Another incident where he photographed his speedometer while driving over 100mph.

Assault rifles

Assault on female

Not a guy you can count on week in, week out.

Seriously, that is lot for 48 months.

Good people ride motorcycle. .

Luke owns a lot of guns as well..

And assaulting a woman thing is questionable if it happened. .

Damn straight.

I would love Hardy back, but I think Morgan is a potential diamond in the rough at a fraction of the cost.

Not saying Morgan wouldn't be great for the cost. But you are downplaying hardy like a mofo to justify something.

Hardy's combination of size, speed and quickness is extremely rare. It's up there but not quite at the level of peppers.

He has the amazing versatility of playing anywhere on the line and even dropping back into coverage. You talk about trash OTs. You're going to have to break down sacks for elite defensive lineman like jj watt (plays in a shitty division). Even when he's not getting sacks he is an absolute beast in the run game and pressures the qb like an elite player. He's all over the damn field.

Hardy is a big time player. You don't need to diminish him to make your argument.

Don't have time for this logic, but this is the short version:

1. Lotta good people ride motorcycles responsibly.

2. Luke's guns are probably locked up in a case responsibly.

3. The $$ he used to pay for a crack ho's silence was not questionable.

I loved Hardy as a player, but not a $13m player.  He was a good DE in our system for reasons I mentioned.  Your point about his versatility is very valid.   Morgan might be a decent alternative, but he will not be that great.  I think Hardy could move around because he was not the focus in 2013--We have others on D who drew doubles, blocking from backs--they paid for not paying attention to GH.

I don't know how good GH would be in Tennessee.  I am guessing he would never have had 15 sacks.

I hear DG is in love with the UCLA DE whose name I can easily spell and pronounce but choose not to.

1. He got hit in the motorcycle accident.. do you even know the story?? Why make a dumb statement without knowing the story. .

2. We don't know his guns were laying around. . Again you call a girl a crack ho.. but believe her story like it was fact.. Do you usually follow the opinions of crack hoes??

3. We don't know if he even paid her.. The defense said a settlement was reached.. that doesn't mean it was money. . But even if it was a lot of people and companies settle out in stead of going thru a court case.. that doesn't mean he was guilty of anything. . Maybe he was advised by his lawyers not to let this drag out so he can get back in the league as soon as possible. .

Also anybody who actually followed the case can see that nobody in the case was credible. . So picking guilt or innocence in a he said she said case is stupid. N

Just to play devil's advocate here...

               Player 1      Player 2

40 time:    4.87             4.77

225 reps:  21               21

Vertical:    35"              34"

One of those guys is Greg Hardy, the other is Derrick Morgan.

Greg Hardy's sacks in his 15 sack '13 season break down as follows:

3 vs. Giants - 13th in the league in sacks allowed

1 vs. Rams - 8th

2 vs. Bucs - 27th

1 vs. Pats - 12th

1 vs. Jets - 26th

3 vs. Saints - 10th

4 vs. Falcons - 20th

This averages out to a ranking of 16.6 for Hardy's sacks which is smack in the middle of the number of NFL teams, so Hardy can't be accused of feasting on weak competition for his stats.  If there is a knock on him it's that he only had 8 sacks through our 14th game.  7 of his 15 sacks came in the final two weeks of the season.  The 3 against the Saints were huge as the division title was still in play at that point.  The 4 against the Saints in the final week of the season were against the Falcons and they had been out of contention for weeks.

Overall, I'm not gonna knock his '13 season.  Yeah, the 4 sacks in the final week vs. an abysmal Falcons team was a bit of stat padding, but whatever.  He had a helluva season.
