Two names caught my attention looking over the news this morning.

 

The first was WR Andre Holmes of the Raiders.  Holmes received the lowest RFA tender (meaning they can match the offer but they don't get a pick if they choose not to) which surprised some since he actually led the team in receptions last season.  Holmes is 6'4, 210 and ran a 4.53 in the 40.  He's believed to have good potential, though the Raiders apparently don't believe in it as much as they did before.  Are they right or is this a Raiders blunder we can tajke advantage of?

 

On the other side of the field is DB Sterling Moore of the Cowboys.  Moore, despite starting several games for the Cowboys last year and looking decent, wasn't tendered at all so at this point he's technically unrestricted.  Moore can play outside, nickel and is big enough (202) to perhaps play safety.  He's another player who would come cheap and be worth a look.

 

And also there's Chris Hairston, a player that caught Zod's eye.  Hairston is a right tackle from the Bills who's young and has some upside.  Buffalo chose not to tender him so he's unrestricted too.

 

In what research I've done, I found nothing glaring on these guys.  Right now they're just sort of nondescript.  At worst could be guys you'd bring to camp to see if they show you something.  If they don't, not much investment lost.

 

Any other players among the RFAs that might be of interest assuming the compensation isn't high (or isn't there at all, like these guys)?

 

Anybody with draft pick compensation that you'd still think is worth trying for?

Yeah I thought of Holmes and I think we should make an offer, but I'm not very confident that they won't match whatever we could offer him.

 

Size-Speed combo is pretty good.  If his hands are there, definitely worth a look.

 

But of course, you always have to ask (even with a team like the Raiders) why don't they want him back that badly?

 

 

I hope Hairston is an option.

 

Zod does too.

 

Voth thinks we're done with big tackle signings, but an under the radar signing?  Who knows?

 

 

These are the types of guys we should target

 

Some people would probably argue that :lol:

 

I'm fine with it though.  Finding lesser known guys is how you build a roster without throwing ridiculous money around.

      I once again wake up eat my breakfast and then read bs…man your logic only works in your head I can give you multiple examples but I’ll start with one easy clear example of it matters who you’re getting and what you’re planning on doing. Jadevon C and Khalil Mack were drafted before Aaron Donald 2014 biggest mistake of the draft as we look back and redraft or whatever. It doesn’t make sense to take a DE over a DT thats a stud game changing elite defensive player. You can’t draft of generalization typically you want a DE first but nowadays DT are just as impactful so you better choose right LA got a chip bc of Donald meanwhile K Mack is on his second team and J Clowney on his third  team. We don’t draft positions we draft elite prospects Graham seems to be a more productive disruptive player than either DE we may get. A Carter who I want is a Micah P clone they say I can see him impacting the pass game but the run game might leave him as a non factor. And right now our main focal point on defense this offseason will be stopping the run. We’ll be able to create pressure with A Barno back Wonnum healthy and a mix of blitzing which has helped us generate pass rush lately.  Graham if he allows us to stop the run and he generates a pass rush himself which at Michigan he’s know to do both consistently helps our defense then start controlling games would be a better pick then Carter for us moving forward so let’s dive deeper then just pick a DE over a DT because there’s so many factors to weigh out with these top ten picks in the nfl draft.
