Some things that looked good last night

There's a lot to be upset about, particularly the poor tackling and coverage. But I did see a few good things.

  1. Jake continues to look comfortable and is taking better care of the ball.
  2. The 3rd down defensive line package with Peppers, Johnson, Brayton, and Brown looked good, that's going to be a winner.
  3. Hayden and Lewis still didn't get a push, but at least they're finishing plays on their feet.
  4. Connor looked good at MLB
  5. Moore is our third WR, and he looks good.
  6. Jarrett caught a ball
  7. Goodson will be used a lot this year, he's very good at avoiding the first tackle.
  8. $10 still gets you a beer, popcorn, and soda
  9. Richardson looks like he's recovering nicely.

1-Panthers run O-line is opening some holes

Goodson & Birmingham looked good

2-Connor & Anderson could start for any team

Nice to have depth getting experience

3- TE's look to be a bigger part of the offense

4-S T returns look better than last season

5-Moore looks like Moose's future replacement , kid's got game

#1 ok,Jake is looking better #2the Dline sucks, see #3,#4Connor is a good backup, even starter material!#5 K Moore is great and should be the 3rd receiver!#6 Jarrett caught a ball,WHOOPEE!hell get rid of Smitty and Moose,we don't need em,we got Jarret!#7 Goodson is part of "triple trouble",glad to have him!#8 glad 10$ can buy something!#9 Richardson recovering is great, maybe his team can actually start playing like real professionals for him!

:( That's not good considering some of the QBs we have to play this season.

Flacco seems to have a good ability to escape pressure and make an accurate throw. IMO, he is going to be a really good QB before much longer, maybe better than Ryan. Blitzing him as much as we did probably was not the best plan in hindsight.

I wish we had a QB that could do that.

Okay, let's be real, our run defense looked great last night. we didn't get much pressure on Flacco, but then again, they didn't get much pressure on Jake either. What bothers me is the secondary. Gamble's whiff on a cover 2 play was so appallingly bad, and Harris...he's going to be a liability this season if the preseason is indicative of anything

    • I honestly didn't like trading up on the 2nd to draft a RB with a torn ACL. That didn't seem like a great move for this roster. But it wouldn't be a bad move if he proved to be a quality starter. But now signing Chuba to starter money on the hells of that? Yeah, that's significant roster building assets tied up in the RB position which has been a hallmark of the Panthers' roster building thought process over the years which has led to zero sustained success on the field.
    • But it's not a plug and play like teams were thinking.  Ask the Cowboys and the Bears thinking they were fine letting Montgomery walk.  Ask the Texans who had to trade for Mixon because their backfield held them back.  @Bear Handsbroke down the top running teams in the league and they have a very similar allocated of money/investments in the RB room.  It's a $15 million guaranteed contract over 4 years.  IF we are paying him the full 32 then he is playing very well and earning 8 plus million a year over 4 years.  I don't think we are doing the starter/backup scenario.  Our OC even said he has plays featuring both backs in the backfield.  We are trying to be a RB committee with a RB room that isn't that expensive compared to the league average.  IF Chuba plays to his top potential and we pay out all money he will average between Stevenson and Swift's average salary.
    • I'm just reporting it, not getting excited.  That will no doubt go down with new contracts. But because we've been drafting so many busts, there's no one in house to extend lol.  Could be spent on a lot of known resources.
