Texans may delay Johnson

top dawg

That was not the first time he has done that. He did that in 2010 when he wanted more money.

That's because he had a bad deal when he mistkenly acted as his own agent. He actually wanted more guaranteed money.

That was also meant to guarantee that he be a Texan for the rest of his career. We see how that is turning out.

Johnson was worth every bit of that contract.

Kinda punk move from the Texans, but they gotta do what they gotta do.

It's a business and if they think that this move can net them even a 7th instead of an outright release, then so be it.

I'd think a release and a hope for a compensatory pick would work but if they are targeting Cobb and others, that probably won't happen.

If they've weighed the possibility of looking like the bad guys versus a possible late round pick then so be it.

A pick probably isn't even a real point of contention. The money is the obstacle. No sane GM is going to take on that contract. They know this, unless they are abject idiots. But, it is what it is.

There are no teams with perfect conditions for every player. Some teams have good QB and WR but bad oline (ATL), some have a solid oline, HOF QB but average WR (NE). It's almost impossible to have everything perfect for every position.

true, but i feel since teams can get out of a contract so easily, at their convenience when poo doesn't quite line up ( age, money), i feel players should have the opportunity to do so too. I can at least see why he would be frustrated

no doubt he would have put up better numbers elsewhere, strengthening his legacy. teams can cut bait but players are stuck

So after that, mistake or whatever, they gave him a new contract. Then comes 2014, he skips off season workouts and everyone including the coaches and team mates are begging for him to return.

He did what was in his interest when he had the leverage, now the team has the leverage, they are doing what is in their interest.

Maybe the team thinks they can get a legit trade with someone if he is willing to take a pay cut. If they release him outright, he knows he is not going to get that $22million salary for the next two years.

makes sense.

Thats a risk.. he could be traded to another team without a QB. I dont believe he will be traded

Man, that was nothing. Players skip that poo all the time. That's not real leverage, it's more grandstanding than anything else. When it came time to come to camp, and more importantly play, he was there like the pro that he has always been.

Stop trying to make Johnson out to be a bad guy. He's not. He is beloved in Houston.

Whatever. That was last off season because he felt like they were in rebuilding mode and he wanted to compete for a championship. He restructured his contract three years in a row for that team. He has been a beast on the field, and a model citizen in the community

Just to add to what you said, wouldn't you guys contemplate going somewhere where you have a chance to actually win? At least the Panthers were somewhat competitive every other year while Steve was here. I don't blame the guy for wanting out the last couple of seasons he's nearing the end of his career and there is no sign of the Texans getting an adequate Qb. There are reports saying they are interested in signing Hoyer as their starting Qb. Awful. He's only got a short time left to make his case for the HOF. Andre has been one of the most dominant players of this last decade. Unfortunately he shares something in common with Steve Smith in not having played with a HOF level Qb at any point in his career (Cam is a possibility but it is far to early to tell). Something a lot of the "best" Wrs of all time got to do. Just my 2 cents
