Veldheer was a much better option---a natural LT. We really missed out. Here, he has already basically told us he's not shopping at Tiffany's.

 

jared veldheer did end up being a good value but i don't remember anybody really pounding the table for him on this site.  it seemed like the talk surrounding him started around midseason with everybody bullshitting about "oh yeah that guy that's who we should have signed just like i said".  most of the talk was about anthony collins and how insane and stupid we were for not drafting morgan moses in the 2nd round.

 

that's one guy out of that entire FA class at tackle that played above his cap figure.  his number ramps up to almost $9 million this year which isn't in the cards for us right now either.  donald penn was the other good option but he was just brought in as an emergency replacement for roger saffold when the raiders bungled his physical.

 

i think the real sleeper at tackle in this year might end up being chris hairston though

Personally, I'm content not to overpay in a bidding war for a middle of the road player. Unless the player is an elite game changer, ie Watt, Bryant, Megatron, I would rather use our cap space to keep the core strong.

Well, I suppose my thread is gone now, but I know that I brought that exact idea up probably in February of last year. I expressly said that G-man should explore a deal with all parties involved for a sign/tag and trade deal. I even mentioned that we should try and obtain Denarius Moore in the process if possible.

I know at some point I even said that perhaps we should let Hardy walk and just sign Veldheer outright. Of course you had a few people poo poo Veldheer's talent. But, yes, I beat that drum for a couple of seconds.

There will be a fan meltdown and I frankly don't care.  Gman has this and has yet to give me a reason to doubt him.  From my perspective, it does not seem many of the big name FAs have their contract figures equate to their production.
