Torrey Smith's Future

We went after Hakeen Nicks last year and lost.  He had a down year and might need a fresh start .  Coulld be had for less money than Smith .  If we could get a FA WR that could be #1 or #2 we could double dip on the OL in the draft.  Humprhries and Fisher would be awesome !

Would you guys consider him a #1 or #2?

Right now KB is a #2 at best...are we signing another #2?

#2 at best?? 1000 yards receiving and 9 touchdowns isn't #1 production in your world? And he will without a doubt improve this year. Just look at the playoff game against Seattle to see what kind of potential this dude has.

People get caught up in labels all the time, but I guess some type of ranking system makes people more comfortable. I was party to that train of thought also, but I have made a conscious effort to transcend labeling and speak to skills. What I would like is another receiver that has the ability to prolifically change the game by using exceptional route running and enough speed to be an ever present threat to score on every single play. Moreover, and perhaps most importantly, this receiver would be able to move the chains running the entire route tree, and either command enough respect to draw pressure away from other receivers or make the opposition pay for leaving them in single coverage. In a perfect world, all our receivers would be able to do this. But this is not likely in a practical sense, so you have to give and take a little regarding expectations and get the closest that you can in order to compensate for deficiencies across the entire receiving corps.

As it stands now, our receiving corps does not have this guy. Personally, I don't believe that Torrey Smith is that guy either. He will basically provide speed. The sample size that we have seen of Smith says that he can't be counted on to run the whole route tree or put fear in defenses on a consistent basis. He is just not explosive enough. That being said, he would add something. My main problem with him is that I just don't believe he is worth the price for what he is bringing to the table (especially when I can get Denarius Moore much much cheaper who arguably has more upside).

I don't think most people understand how special a 1000 yard rookie WR truly is.

another thing to add with TS is that he is a very, very good dude. Panther type player for sure.

i honestly think adding him would be great. But the price needs to be right. He passed on 19 million guaranteed.

But Zod has been saying there are rumblings that DG will make a splash signing. So who knows.

Right?   And that is with our depleted wr corp.   With any other team, he is, a t best a 12th string wr...  basically a practice squad player.

Was it confirmed that he turned down 19 million guaranteed? If that's true, the odds of him being a Panther are slim to none. It's possible that he just wants out of Baltimore, but I think the odds are likely that he wants a big payday, not that I blame him.

Seeing what he got paid for what he produced, I'm not sure I'd say we "lost" on Nicks.

That's what I read here. I believe there was a link. Yeah doubt we would give him that kind of money. I like the idea of having him, but we need a proficient route runner like greg at wr. Torrey is a huge play machine along with benjamin would be really exciting though.
